Norepinephrine (NE), dopamine, histamine and serotonin levels in the blood were measured fluorometrically in 54 patients with nasal bleedings (NB) aged 15 to 23 years. Of them, 18 patients suffered from habitual NB, 36 had NB because of hypertension. Biogenic amines were studied before and after graded exercise (GE). Low basal levels of serotonin, NE and dopamine were found in all the examinees. Patients with habitual NB had also high basal level of histamine. Such correlation of biogenic amines points to abnormal relations between vasoconstrictive and vasodilating mechanisms of neurohumoral vascular regulation disturbing microcirculation in nasal mucosa, suppresses tonicity of the capacitive vessels, leads to their overfilling, progression of circulatory hypoxia and metabolic acidosis, makes bleedings recurrent. Similarity of neurohumoral adaptation reactions to GE in patients with habitual and hypertensive NB suggests the presence of the same mechanisms of NB onset and their recurrences in various primary causes.

The ability to inactivate lysozyme was found in representatives of three species of the genus Klebsiella bacteria: K. pneumoniae (117 strains), K. rhinoscleromatis (104 strains), K. ozaenae (90 cultures). The test cultures displayed a different antilysozyme activity, inactivating from 2 to 30 micrograms/ml of the enzyme. Taking into account the lysozyme role in the immunity and chitin synthesis processes in the organism of insects, the inactivation of the enzyme by Klebsiella may be considered as one of possible mechanisms of the entomopathogenic action of these bacteria.

The prolactin concentration in blood of 58 patients was measured during vestibular crisis and compensation of vestibular disorders. The results were compared with the clinical development of the disease and localization of vestibular problems. Patients with acute vestibular lesions at the central level of vestibular disorders showed a significant increase of prolactin concentrations that was higher than the concentrations in patients with the peripheral vestibular syndrome at the decompensation stage. Hyperprolactinemia during central vestibular dysfunction is viewed as a manifestation of dopamine deficiency of the tuberoinfundibular area. It is suggested that inadequacy of dopaminergic structures is one of the factors reducing adaptive and compensatory capabilities of the vestibular apparatus when its central compartments are injured.
