[Cefoperazone in combination with metronidazole in the prevention of postoperative infectious complications in patients with genital neoplasms].

Cefoperazone and metronidazole were used for the prevention of postoperative infectious complications in 33 patients (Group 1) with cervical cancer who had undergone the Wertheim operation. 29 patients (Group 2) were treated prophylactically with carbenicillin in the routine doses. Postoperative urinary infections developed in 12.1 and 37.9 per cent of the patients in Groups 1 and 2, respectively. Since the incidence of infectious complications in the patients of Group 1 was lower, the radiation therapy was initiated on an average on day 12.4 +/- 0.4, which was much earlier than in Group 2 (day 15.4 +/- 0.8, p < 0.001). Bacteriological examination of the operation materials from the patients of Group 1 revealed the presence of anaerobes in 64.3 per cent of the patients. The incidence of fever (over 37.8 degrees C) developed irrespective of other signs of an infection significantly correlated with the detection rate of anaerobes in the operation materials (p < 0.05).

Adult

[Evaluation of the effect of vitamin E on the fetus and newborn baby].

The authors studied the effect of vitamin E administered antenatally in view of miscarriage on the body of the fetus and newborn. Experiments made on albino rats, their fetuses and newborn rats demonstrated an increase of the mass of the newborn and their organs together with a greater morphofunctional maturity and higher content of vitamin E in the body. Administration of vitamin E to pregnant women also provided a beneficial effect: a favourable course of the neonatal period, a milder course of diseases that occurred, and a high level of natural antioxidants in the children's body.

Animals

[Evaluation of the effectiveness of antibacterial therapy].

It is recommended to estimate the clinical effect of antibacterial therapy in patients with different purulent inflammatory complications with an account of the data on both the clinical and bacteriological examinations. The full affect consisted in disappearance of the clinical signs and complete bacteriological sanation of the purulent inflammatory foci. The partial effect was shown by a marked decrease in the clinical manifestations without complete bacteriological sanation of the foci. The ill effect was evidenced by clinical picture having no time course and no favourable time course in bacteriological tests. No effect was indicated by deterioration of the clinical picture and no favourable time course in the bacteriological tests.

[Preclinical ECG changes and their evaluation based on the criterion of symmetrical approach].

To reveal preclinical cardiac performance changes, conventional and unique ECG processing procedures were used in 101 individuals. A classification of heart function was developed, which was based on a comprehensive assessment of ECG. The results of the clinicofunctional classification were well comparable with those of a quantitative ECG analysis made with heuristical methods. The ratios of various ECG parameters are more informative than the absolute values of these parameters. In screening, the quantitative ECG analysis have some advantages over the visual one as it requires no thorough clinicopharmacological study. The symmetrical approach to an ECG analysis with the use of geometrical methods of simulation may be useful for the criterion assessment of preclinical alteration in cardiac performance.

[The role of the oscillation of the tail vessels in unanesthetized rats in regulating the blood flow during heat exposure].

Studies of the changes in the rat tail blood vessels in heating shows a considerable increase in slow oscillation frequency, apart from the rheographic index elevation. The hyperthermic effect became considerably lesser in elimination of these oscillations with ganglio- or adrenoblocking agents. The mechanism of hyperemia in heating associated with modulation of mechanic contractions of vascular smooth muscles, are discussed.

Animals

[Biological effects of leakadin].

57 patients with disseminated tumors of various sites received 10 daily doses of 600 mg/m2 leakadin intravenously. The immunostimulating effect was observed (OKT4/OKT8 normalization). The data on leakadin pharmacokinetics are discussed.
