Statistically significant differences of the average values of the length of the latent period of a complex sensorimotor choice reaction (semantic differentiation) were identified in 246 subjects (men, average age 21 years) differing in the level of functional motility (I-IV). The calculation of Pearson correlation coefficients revealed significant negative associations between the indices of functional motility and the lengths of latent periods. It seems possible, on the basis of these data, to consider the length of the latent period of complex semantic choice reactions as an informative indicator of the functional motility of nervous processes.

Conditioned activity and vegetative reactions were studied in dogs which repeatedly underwent clinical death from electrical trauma and were reanimated by donor artificial blood circulation. (The first clinical death was provoked 15 to 18 months prior to the repeated death and was caused by drowning and blood loss). On the first few days after reanimation the functions of the higher parts of the CNS and the vegetative nervous system were considerably disturbed. This was manifested in diminished effector reactions to conditioned stimuli, in narcotic and ultraparadoxal phases in conditioned activity, in tachycardia and a higher respiratory rate. The disturbances gradually diminished and by the 5th to 13th day following reanimation completely disappeared. The nature and depth of the disturbances correlated with the basic properties of the animals' type of higher nervous activity. The conditioned reactions were restored despite the retained pronounced dystrophic and destructive changes in the cerebral cortex. This is significant proof of important compensatory capacity for conditioned activity in dogs.

In 246 subjects (men, mean age--21 years) differing by the level of functional mobility (I-IV), statistically significant differences were found of mean values of latencies of complex sensorimotor reactions of choice (differentiation by meaning). Computation of Pearson correlation coefficients revealed significant negative connections between characteristics of functional mobility and values of latencies. On the basis of these data it is possible to consider the value of the latency of complex semantic reactions of choice as an information index of functional mobility of nervous processes.
26 practically healthy youths of 16-18 years old not adapted to the mountains earlier were investigated under the conditions of a plain (Kiev) and at the height of 2100 m and 3000 m above sea-level (Chegem). A stay under the conditions of moderate altitude for one month was found to favour amelioration of the characteristics of the functional lability (CFL) of the nervous system, information processing velocity, attention concentration and distribution, short-term memory volume, general subjective feeling as well as shortening the latent periods of visually-motor reactions. Large adaptive shifts of the CFL and more stable positive effect of mountain adaptation after returning to the plain were found in persons with initially high functional lability level in comparison to those with mean or lower values of CFL. Positive connection between the CFL and the degree of adaptive changes of external respiration was observed under the conditions of moderate altitude. Statistically significant connection of the CFL with the respiratory center sensitivity to hypercapnia was found rather than their correlation with the value of ventilatory response to acute hypoxia during gas mixtures respiration.
