Peripheral blood estradiol, progesterone, testosterone were measured in 100 women with gonorrhea and Gonococcus-Trichomonas infection. Estradiol levels were found reduced in both phases, progesterone level elevated in the follicular and lowered in the lutein phases of the menstrual cycle as against the norm. Elevated testosterone levels were revealed in the peripheral blood of women with gonorrhea, particularly so in chronic gonorrhea and mixed Gonococcus-Trichomonas infection. Therapy did not result in normalization of blood hormone concentrations, this pointing to advisability of including the drugs correcting hormonal disorders into a complex of treatment of such patients.
Blood plasma thyroxine, triiodothyronine, thyroxine-binding globulin, and thyrotropic hormone have been radioimmunoassayed in 148 patients with rubromycosis. Reduced function of the thyroid has been detected in 39% of patients. Specific antifungal therapy does not essentially influence the function of the hypophyseal-thyroid system.
The first case of this condition in Byelorussia since 1945 in an Ethiopian student is described. Therapy with methacycline, polyvitamins, and local UHF has been fairly effective.
The authors assess the clinical efficacy of sibicort, and ointment manufactured by Orion, Finland, used in therapy of patients suffering from neurodermatitis, eczema, and allergic dermatitis. Pathogenetic treatment combined with sibicort has been administered to 64 patients with disseminated true eczema, 115 ones with diffuse neurodermatitis, and 20 ones with allergic dermatitis. The ointment has been applied to and a little bit rubbed in the foci of lesions twice a day. Sibicort has proved to be a highly effective external drug for the treatment of allergic itching dermatoses. Both immediate and late results have been the best in neurodermatitis patients. No side effects or complications associated with this ointment application have been observed; the drug has been well tolerated.
The function of the hypophyseo-thyroid system has been examined by radioimmunoassays in 185 patients suffering from eczema. In 62% of patients thyroid function has been found increased. The findings evidence a relationship between the severity of thyroid dysfunction and the clinical pattern of the disease. Experiments with guinea pigs in whom hyperthyrosis has been induced have demonstrated that thyroxine can induce allergic DNCB-dermatitis in guinea pigs.
