[Stepwise combination of skeletal scintigram and x-rays in the improvement and rationalisation of skeletal metastases detection (author's transl)].

Skeletal scintigraphy with 99mTc phosphate complexes allows the early detection of sites of pathological activity in bones. High sensitivity of this procedure (93%) contrasts with low specificity (59%). Scintigraphically-located sites are uncharacteristic and can imply various diagnoses and require radiodiagnostic investigation. The stepwise application of both methods is recommended, according to tumour type and clinical picture in order to avoid unnecessary and costly duplication of investigation procedures. Thus, the combination of the high specificity of skeletal radiology and the high sensitivity of scintigraphy aids the early detection of skeletal metastases, whereby whole-body skeletal scintigraphy forms the basis for such investigations.

Progesterone and 20alpha-hydroxysteroid-dehydrogenase regulation in the corpus luteum of the pregnant rat.

Female Wistar rats were mated and passively immunized against bovine luteinizing hormone (bLH) between days 7-12 of gestation. In a first series of experiments the effect of simultaneous progesterone treatment on the histochemically detectable activity of 20alpha-hydroxysteroiddehydrogenase (20alpha-OHSD) in the corpora lutea of pregnancy was evaluated. In other experiments the exact time course was established between the first histologically demonstrable signs of termination of pregnancy and the appearance of 20alpha-OHSD activity in corpora lutea of pregnancy. It was found that progesterone substitution not only prevented the deleterious effects of the anti-bLH-serum on gestation but also the re-appearance of 20alpha-OHSD activity in the corpora lutea of pregnancy up to day 12 of pregnancy. Moreover in animals injected with anti-bLH-serum from day 7 on and sacrificed on days 8-12, signs of foetal destruction clearly preceded the pathological re-appearance of 20alpha-OHSD activity by 2-3 days. These results support previous findings on a direct or indirct role of progesterone in the complex regulation of 20alpha-OHSD activity. Possible mechanisms of action are discussed.

[Identification of thyroglobulin-binding cells in the blood of Hashimoto patients (author's transl)].

We developed a new method for demonstration and enumeration of antigen-binding cells, the principle and application of this method is demonstrated using peripheral blood lymphoid cells from Hashimoto patients, non-Hashimoto, non Graves' disease goiter patients and in patients without thyroid disease. A significantly higher number of thyroglobulin-binding cells was observed in the peripheral blood of Hashimoto patients as compared to members of the two other groups. The results of the FICA-tests were compared to conventional serological data of the individual patients.

[Distribution studies of 111In labeled bleomycin in the intratumoral and peritumoral treatment of advanced squamous cell carcinomas in the oto-rhino-larygnological region (author's transl)].

The localization of 111In labeled Bleomycin was studied in 9 patients with advanced squamous cell carcinomas. The dosis was injected either peritumorally or intramorally. Accumulation of Radiobleomycin in tumor tissue, in blood and in urine was tested. We found a very high accumulation in tumor tissue for a short time within 2 hours, a very rapid excretion of Radiobleomycin in urine and concomitant slowly decrease of 111In Bleomycin in blood was observed.
