Lipoma due to chronic intermittent compression as an occupational disease.

A total of 15 coppersmiths who do the job as a traditional profession in Kahramanmaras Province were retrospectively analyzed for revealing a possible relationship of lipoma formation and chronic compression, as the work characteristic related to mechanical pressure to the right thoracal and shoulder region. The workers were examined and their historical data were noted. Chronic compression sites in the patients were also evaluated by magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasonography. The ages were between 30 and 52 years. Body mass index ranged from 18.6 to 38.8. Five were operated for visible lipomatous masses at their injured sites. All of the specimens were reported as containing mature adipocytes. An increased subcutaneous fat thickness at the injured sides of the patients was seen when compared with the uninjured contralateral sides using ultrasonography. At the magnetic resonance images, no capsule intensity was observed in the lipomatose masses. Subcutaneous fat of injured right mammarial regions was thicker than the other contralateral sides in all of the cases. The most prominent lipomas were seen in obese workers, and strong evidence for chronic trauma and lipoma formation as an occupational disease was obtained from the study.

Traumatic displacement of teeth into maxillary sinus cavity: an unusual dentoalveolar fracture.

We present an unusual dentoalveolar fracture case who had displacement of teeth into maxillary sinus cavity. This patient was 15 years old. He had oral bleeding and lost teeth after falling from the top of a building. Examination of maxillofacial region showed that there were left maxillary teeth lost, alveolar fracture, gingival bleeding and laserations. Maxillofacial bones were found intact. Canine, both premolars and the first molar teeth on left maxilla were lost. Pantomographic evaluation viewed two teeth in the left maxillary sinus. In addition, computerized tomography clearly showed oroantral fistula, alveolar fracture and teeth into maxillary sinus. Extraction of teeth from sinus cavity was performed as well as repair of oroantral fistula and alveolar fracture. This patient is thought that dentoalveolar injury may be more serious than expected according to the oral examination and it requires careful evaluation, even if dentoalveolar trauma does not pose a significant morbid risk.

Vertical mammaplasty marking using the key hole pattern.

Many modifications of the vertical mammaplasty procedure used to shorten the learning curve have been described. The authors advocate marking the breasts for the vertical mammaplasty operation according to the key hole pattern. They have used inverted T techniques on the upper breast and Lejour's vertical mammaplasty on the lower breast. A total of 14 patients who had breast hypertrophy and ptosis underwent operations with this marking modification. The amount of removed breast ranged from 285 to 875 g per breast. Hematoma, skin necrosis, skin dehiscence, loss of nipple-areola sensitivity, and distortion were not observed in these cases.
