A normal healthy male infant was delivered by caesarian section because of low maternal urinary oestrogen excretion. Postnatal follow up showed that the child developed ichthyosis and that there was a family history of x-linked recessive ichthyosis. It is suggested that unexplained low urinary oestrogens should prompt enquiry about a family history of 'dry skin'.

A long-term, erythematous, follicular papular dermatosis affecting the presternal and interscapular skin was found to occur in subjects with Down's syndrome. One hundred seventy-four subjects (110 male and 64 female) were surveyed. The condition was seen in 46% of the males, with the highest incidence in patients who were between 20 and 40 years of age; the condition was rare in the females. Our findings suggest that this condition is much commoner than any other abnormal skin feature described in the literature on Down's syndrome.
In a multi-centre double-blind trial, 31 patients with proven bilateral candidal lesions of the flexures were treated for 14 days with nystatin cream on one side and with a combination of nystatin and triamcinolone acetonide cream on the other. Both treatments proved equally effective in terms of mycological cure and clinical improvement. There was a trend in favour of the combination preparation being preferred by both patients and physicians because of more rapid relief of symptoms.

Comparison of the efficacy of crude coal tar from high and low temperature sources in the treatment of patients suffering from chronic psoriasis showed the tars to be equally effective. High temperature tar was then compared with standard refined tar. Again, an equal therapeutic response was achieved. Crude coal tars obtained by the carbonization of coal in coke ovens and in smokeless fuel manufacture can be employed in dermatological therapy in place of the dwindling supplies of crude tar of gasworks origin.
One hundred and twenty-three children who had napkin dermatitis, with or without a secondary sensitization eruption, in infancy were reviewed 5-13 years later. Of the seventy-one who had a predominantly psoriasiform secondary eruption, twelve (17%) had psoriasis at review-three (4%) had atopic eczema. None of the forty treated for a predominantly seborrhoeic secondary eruption had psoriasis at review-15 (37%) had atopic eczema. The psoriasiform group had the highest incidence of psoriasis and the lowest incidence of atopy among first degree relatives. The converse incidence was found in the seborrhoeic group. It is suggested that infants who develop psoriasiform napkin dermatitis have a psoriatic diathesis.
Anti-tumour antibody was sought in the sera of three groups of patients; idiopathic vitiligo, malignant melanoma and miscellaneous skin disorders. No precipitating antibody to a series of prepared pigmented tumour antigens was demonstrated. All sera were tested for a number of auto-antibodies. No significant differences were detected between the groups. The evidence for an immunological factor in the causation of vitiligo remains circumstantial only.
