A new cephalometric parameter to aid in dental base relationship analysis.

The cephalometric literature is rich with different craniofacial analyses. However, since these analyses are only descriptive for the clear skeletal discrepancies and somewhat handicapped for borderline cases, an investigation was designed to assess the dental base relationship in the human lateral skull cephalostat radiograph. A number of existing measurements were reviewed, and a new measurement, based upon anatomical points which could prove to be more reliable, was introduced.

A comparative study between two randomly selected samples from which to derive standards for craniofacial measurements.

The present study was performed to derive cephalometric standards for Saudi Arabian boys aged from 9-12 years. The sample was then compared with a British sample aged 9-12 years to detect statistical differences. The differences between both samples demonstrated a slightly prognathic Saudi face, more protrusive upper and lower incisors, and low Gonial and saddle angles.

Adult cephalometric norms for Saudi Arabians with a comparison of values for Saudi and North American Caucasians.

When considering orthognathic surgery for adult Saudi Arabians, there are as yet no cephalometric norms available for use during treatment planning. Lateral cephalometric radiographs were taken for 48 Saudi adult patients (24 males, 24 females). All showed reasonably normal dental relationship, with no severe antero-posterior, vertical or transverse skeletal discrepancies. The age range was from 20 to 46 years. Angular and linear measurements were recorded and compared to a similar sample of North American caucasians. A set of cephalometric values for male and female Saudis were established and the differences between these and a North American sample are highlighted.
