[Acoustic characteristics of resonance after cavity surgery on the ear and their usage in variants of reconstructive operations].

Acoustic measurements were made of the external and middle ear resonance in health and disease in patients after radical surgery on the ear and in chronic perforative otitis media. It is shown that the absence of the posterior wall of the acoustic meatus deteriorates hearing acuity in the frequency 4000 Hz. Reconstructive surgery of this wall normalizes acoustic resonance of the ear. The value of bone-air interval on pure tone audiogram is different after cavity operation and perforation of the tympanic membrane. Characteristics of acoustic resonance of the ear are decisive for choice of reconstructive surgery.

[Electrostimulation of laryngeal muscles with fluctuating currents in the treatment of patients with unilateral laryngeal paralysis].

Intralaryngeal electrostimulation of the laryngeal muscles with fluctuating currents with simultaneous mobilization of the arytenoid cartilage and paralysed vocal cord were used in 42 patients with unilateral laryngeal paralysis. The treatment was combined with phonopedic lessons. The control group consisted of 32 patients receiving standard electrostimulation with diadynamic currents. The effect was evaluated by changes in vocal acoustic parameters and stroboscopic parameters. In patients with paramedian fixation of the vocal cords voice improvement was obtained irrespective of electrostimulation type. For patients with intermedian and lateral fixation of the vocal cords more effective was intralaryngeal electrostimulation with fluctuating currents. A good therapeutic effect was achieved in patients with dislocation of the arytenoid cartilage.

[Ratio of different sound conducting ways and dynamics of Weber's experiment in health and disease].

A complex of audiometric tests in ear-phones and in the free acoustic field and using hearing aids was made in normally hearing individuals and in patients with asymmetric secondary neurosensory hypoacusis in the presence of adhesive otitis media and tubal otitis. There were various frequency ranges in which the dynamics of Weber's experiment differently varied with the strength of a signal and with the type of an abnormality. The combined signal sending along the bone and air to one ear was shown to be of diagnostic value. There was a need for individually selecting characteristics of a hearing apparatus irrespective audiometric findings.

[Curable forms of sensorineural hearing loss].

Upon the analysis of the literature data and original investigations the author makes the conclusion on the existance of several etiopathogenetic forms of neurosensory hypoacusis. One of the forms is caused by defective conduction of the sound wave energy to senso-neural elements of the receptor. This form can be diagnostically differentiated from the others and is sensitive to treatment, with low-frequency aperiodic pulse current, in particular.

[Sound pressure isopotential levels for the microphonic potential of the internal ear].

The amplitude of gross microphonic potential of guinea pigs was used for output regulation of the generator of sinusoidal and narrow-band noise signals at continuous changing of frequencies. Thus isopotential contours of sound pressure levels (SPL) were obtained. The dynamics of the isopotential SPL on different levels within the range of 50-20 000 Hz, is described.

Acoustic Stimulation↗

[Perception of a merged acoustic image by subjects with normal hearing and patients with different forms of hearing disorders during binaural stimulation].

In subjects with normal hearing and different types of hypoacusis, the proportion of pure tones was measured during continuous sweep of sound frequencies in the left and right ears which resulted in a merged acoustic image in the center of the head. Different predominance types were detected in subjects with normal hearing and patients with symmetric and asymmetric neurosensory hypoacusis. This predominance was of individual character in cases of conductive hypoacusis. These observations can be used for the development of binaural hearing aids. The study also demonstrated a distinct asymmetry in the left and right ear sensitivity to binaural perception of acoustic stimuli whose frequency was continuously varying in the range 100 to 10,000 Hz.

[Factorial structure of discriminating speech perception in binaural electro-acoustic correction in patients with imparied hearing of various etiology].

These authors examined 260 patients with hypoacusis of various etiology who needed hearing aids. When measuring their hearing, the authors identified the basic factors that may influence speech intelligibility in the case of binaural correction and optimal type of hearing aids. For every group of patients with hypoacusis of various etiology regression curves of integrated parameters were plotted which helped predict the effectiveness of hearing aids on an individual basis.
