Human fluid balance modelling and its treatment simulation with HIDION.

HIDION is a tanden system composed of an expert system for diagnosis of the water and electrolytic balance disturbance and a modelling program for simulation and suggestion of the needed correction. The expert system attempts to make a diagnosis mainly based on clinical symptoms and on patient history, as they are generally available for most physicians. The treatment module assists the user to establish a right strategy for re-equilibration of the fluid balance. The first aim of the system is to achieve a correct diagnosis of the disturbances of the fluid balance and a choice of therapy tactics. The second aim of the system is an educational one for both physicians and nurses. The entire system, including the expert module as well as the modelling module is developed in Turbo Prolog.

Alteration of catecholamine concentration in urine and ischemic heart disease.

Concentration of catecholamines (Adrenaline and Noradrenaline) was determined in the urine collected for 24 h from normal subjects and those with painful ischemic cardiopathy. Statistically significant results were obtained only for adrenaline whose concentration increased in the above mentioned pathological state.

Correlations between the hypertensive syndrome and catecholamine production.

The concentration of catecholamine (noradrenaline and adrenaline) was studied in the urine of a group of patients with AH comparatively with a control group. A lack of homogeneity was observed in the group of patients, the results allowing the subdivision of hypertensive patients into one subgroup with low CA excretion and another one with high CA excretion. No significant variation of total CA excretion was observed in the first subgroup but the concentration of adrenaline was found to be high. In the second subgroup of patients (with increased CA excretion), noradrenaline excretion was significantly higher, thus proving its involvement in peripheral vasoconstriction. In this subgroup the increased CA production may be attributed to the sympathetic nervous component.

Urinary excretion of vanyl-mandelic acid correlated with ischemic heart disease.

The concentration of vanyl-mandelic acid is analysed in the urine collected within 24 hours from normal subjects, from those with painful ischemic cardiopathy, infarction and post-infarction sequelae. Statistically significant results have been obtained only in infarction patients. The study of the concentration of vanyl-mandelic acid by age decades points to the increase of average values throughout life.
