[The morphology of tumor-like formations and tumors of the breasts in men and women].

The paper deals with the study of 159 males with gynecomastia and 79 males with carcinoma of the mammary gland and 85 females suffering cancers of the same organ. Gynecomastia presented as diffuse (33.3%) or focal (66.7%). Males and females revealed mammary gland carcinomas of the identical type. Cancers in males were more pernicious than in females. A direct correlation was established between tumor malignancy and frequency of both regional distant metastases. The most unfavorable prognosis was registered in cases of blood and/or lymph vessel invasion.

Breast↗

[The mitotic regimen of breast cancer in men].

Mitotic regimen of tumor was studied in 75 male and 50 female patients with breast cancer. Mitotic index (9.7 and 14.3%, respectively) and number of pathologic mitoses (28 and 25%) did not differ significantly between the two groups. However, retardation of chromosome movement in meta-, ana- and telophase was 3 times more frequent in males. This suggests that breast carcinoma in males tends to become more aneuploid than in females. The latter reflects the rate of tumor progression. Clinically, breast cancer in males is characterized by rapid growth, early dissemination and resistance to treatment.

Aneuploidy↗

[Lobular breast cancer in males].

Mammary carcinoma occurs in males about 100 times more seldom than in females. 1/30 of all mammary carcinoma in males is lobular cancer. One such observation of lobular carcinoma in a male of 58 developing against the background of fibroadenomatosis is described.

Breast Neoplasms↗

[Mesenchymal chondrosarcoma of the radius with metastases in the internal organs].

A rare variant of chondrosarcoma--a mesenchymal chondrosarcoma of the right radiocarpal articulation--is described. The tumour was very small, painless, and did not disturb the joint function but possessed a high mitotic activity and gave lymphogenic metastases to the viscera of the right half of the body. It was not diagnosed clinically.

Adult↗

[Giant teratoma of the placenta (acardius amorphus)].

This was either giant teratoma of placenta or malformed twin foetus. A premature separation of placenta took place this resulting in an antenatal asphyxia of the second foetus. The mechanical pressure of the tumour could play a role in the development of asphyxia.

Diseases in Twins↗

[Primary leiomyosarcoma of the heart].

Malignant heart leiomyomas occur extremely rarely, therefore every case deserves to be described. The patient--a woman who had three normal deliveries--felt, during the 4th pregnancy, retrosternal pains and dyspnea after the slightest physical tension. Pathomorphological examination revealed leiomyosarcoma, mixed variant.

Acute Disease↗

[Teratoma of the superior lobe of the left lung].

Diagnosis of the left lung echinococcal cyst was established in a 8-year-old girl. Upon lobectomy of the left lung, superior lobe mixed teratoma (areas of mature tissue were found together with immature tissue) was diagnosed histologically.
