[Disorders of electrokinetic properties of blood in patients with surgical diseases].

In examination of the patients with tumors (25), ulcer disease of the stomach and duodenum (9), urolithiasis (11), cholelithiasis (5), occlusive lesion of the arteries of the extremities (17), it was established that the most significant decrease in electrokinetic blood properties was observed in a high prothrombin index, plasma fibrinogen and electrolytes content in the blood serum. For correction of the disorders revealed, rheopolyglucin , hemodes , heparin, trental were administered intravenously.

[Cycloplegic effectiveness of cyclopentolate and tropicamide preparations compared with atropinization].

To gain a comparative estimate of cycloplegic agents with mild effect vs conventional atropinization, a study was performed on refraction in 57 children after instillations of cyclopentolate and atropine and in 57 children after instillations of tropicamide and atropine. A difference was determined in refraction after instillation of cycloplegic agents with mild effect and atropine. It turned out that by depth of cycloplegic effect cyclopentolate is reaching that of atropine. Cyclopentolate can be used in initial study of refraction in children with hypermetropic and myopic refraction and in repeated studies of any refraction. Tropicamide is less effective cycloplegic agent than cyclopentolate and thus it can be used in initial studies of refraction in children with myopia and in repeat studies of refraction in children with myopia and hypermetropia and also in cases of intolerance of other cycloplegic agents.

[Possibilities of the use of low-energy laser effects on the ciliary body in optic nystagmus].

The accommodation potential of the eye is markedly reduced in patients with optic nystagmus. Trans-scleral exposure of the ciliary body to infrared low-energy laser at wavelength 1.3 microns may be used to repair the accommodation potential of the eyes and improve the visual function in nystagmus. Laser stimulation of the ciliary zone was carried out in 62 patients with optic nystagmus. As a result, the accommodation potential was 1.417 times increased and the closest point of clear vision approached the eye by 1.309 diopters. Far vision acuity increased by 1.334 times, close one by 1.258 times. A stable positive result persisted for 3 to 6 months, after which laser stimulation may be repeated, or other means of repairing the accommodation system of the eye be resorted to, such as training after Avetisov-Mats or exercises with a home ergographer.

[Table for assessing visual acuity in children].

A table of silhouette patterns meeting the requirements of ISO standard is developed in Russia. The aim of this work was to assess by ISO method the correspondence of visual acuity evaluated by the pattern table to visual acuity evaluated by Landolt rings and select the patterns the recognition of which is most of all similar to recognition of Landolt's rings. Visual acuity was examined by the ISO method in 10 subjects with visual acuity of 1.0. Visual acuity assessed by patterns corresponded to that assessed by Landolt's rings if the examinee was acquainted with all tests. Recognition of patterns was assessed in 22 children aged 3.5-5.5 years. Patterns which were identified in less than 50% cases were excluded from the tables. The proposed table can be used in practical ophthalmology, because the results of visometry using this table are compatible with the results of examination by means of Landolt's rings.
