Symptomatic leiomyoma of the adrenal.

Small leiomyomas of the adrenal gland are pathologic curiosities, usually discovered incidentally at autopsy, and thought to arise from smooth muscle of the adrenal vasculature. We report the clinical, radiologic and pathologic features of a symptomatic adrenal leiomyoma, which, to our knowledge, represents the first recorded example.

Computed tomography of axial myopia.

Computed tomography (CT) is the primary imaging modality for evaluation of an orbital mass presenting as proptosis. Axial myopia is a benign cause of unilateral proptosis frequently encountered by the ophthalmologist. Identification of this condition by CT avoids additional investigation of the cause of the proptosis.

Acute pulmonary edema resulting from treatment for premature labor.

The development of acute pulmonary edema in four pregnant women being treated for premature labor with betamimetic and glucocorticoid therapy is described. The radiological features and pertinent obstetrical literature concerning this adverse drug reaction are discussed.

The transverse common duct.

The sonographic appearance and incidence of transverse common ducts were studied. A review of 118 intraoperative cholangiograms showed a transverse segment longer than 35 mm in 18% of the dilated extrahepatic ducts and in 6% of the normal caliber ducts. The causes of obstruction varied. When dilated, the transverse segment may be confused with the portal and splenic veins on a sonogram. An awareness of this anatomic variation can be helpful in locating an obstructing lesion of the extrahepatic bile duct.

Benign ulceration of the cecum.

Three proved cases of benign ulceration of the cecum are presented, 2 with acute onset of abdominal pain, the third with acute hemorrhage. The clinical, pathological, and variable radiographic features are described.
