Managing the neutral zone.

Constant change is the norm rather than the unusual, and all indications are that the rate, volume, and complexity of change will only escalate in the future. The issue for managers is more about coping with the responses that they and their staff have to change rather than the change itself. Four responses to change can be identified and described. Managers who can identify what is happening are better prepared to provide effective coping mechanisms to prevent getting stuck in the "neutral zone."

Toward a new order: boundary management.

According to recent research data, interactions between people will be impacted by four types of psychological boundaries. Each of the boundaries has specific key distinctions that identify them. If the boundary can be identified, then specific skills can be used to facilitate successful, positive interactions between people. These data provide a strong foundation on which managers can build as they develop new skills to cope with new demands.

Using a three-step method, the blend of management, skill, and leadership talent is discussed.
