[Congenital imperforation of the nasolacrimal canal].

The medical attendance of the congenital imperforation of the tear-nasal tassel continues to be an actual problem because of the great number of cases met in practice. The analysis of 115 cases of congenital imperforation of the tear-nasal tassel shows the presence of this disease at one eye in 76 cases and at the both eyes in 39 cases. The frequency of the un perforation was greater at men. From 115 cases of congenital imperforations there have been obtained good results using tear lavages in 71 cases and tear polls in 39 cases. In 5 failure informations there was practised dacryocystorhinostomy, but only after 3 years age.

Child, Preschool

[Congenital bilateral abducens paralysis and facial diplegia. The Moebius syndrome].

The patient, 9 years old, presents bilateral congenital paralysis of the facial, disability of the ocular globes abduction, facial cutanate atrophy and partial paralysis of hypoglos, syndrome manifestations that are framed in the disease described by Moebius. The patient also presents epicanthus, hiperthlorysm, atresia of the tear points. The disease is caused by some teratogenic factors which act between the fourth and the seventh week of the intrauterine life with the atresia of the sixth and seventh nucleus and partially of the ninth nucleus as well as of the supranuclear way from the proximity of these nucleus. The variety of the clinical manifestations can be explained through the affectation of the different nervous structures during the embryogenesis, but the congenital paralysis of the abduction and the facial diplegia are the most important manifestations of the syndrome.

Abducens Nerve

[Inflammatory granuloma of the face with a malignant course. Atypical Hodgkin's disease (author's transl)].

A case of Hodgkin's disease beginning in the skin of the face with local lymph node involvement is reported. This was a lymphogranulomatous form without characteristic Reed-Sternberg cells in skin biopsy specimens, rendering the diagnosis difficult. There was a combination of granulomatous inflammation, plaques of necrosis and lesions of fibrinoid necrosis in the vessel walls. This form entered the classification of clinical Stage IV, with its associated serious prognosis.

Adult

Induction in rats of paranasal sinus carcinomas with radioactive cerium chloride.

A colloidal suspension of radioactive cerium stabilized in the form of hydroxide was inoculated into young Sprague-Dawley rats near the maxillary sinus. Well-differentiated epidermoid carcinomas of the paranasal sinus were obtained in 8 of 12 rats and in 8 of 9 animals that liver more then 200 days. Therefore, this istope was highly effectivein inducing tumors at the site of injection. The uniformity of the histologic type of tumors induced under these experimental conditions was remarkable.

Animals

[Aetiological aspects of uveitis (author's transl)].

An analysis of the probable aetiology of 222 cases of uveitis. In order of frequency the aetiology was: infectious focis 31%, rheumatism 28%, tuberculosis 7.6%, streptococci 4%, viral 3.6%, rickettsia 1.3%, syphilis, brucellosis in 0.5%. In 22.1% of cases the aetiology was not established. In young subjects the majority consisted of bacterial and viral infections particularly streptococcal. In adults the most frequent aetiology was rheumatic and in the elderly foci of infection.

Adolescent

[Costal vascularization and pediculated costal grafts in mandibular reconstruction with intercostofacial microanastomosis].

As an applied study of the human costal vascularisation, the authors describe the technique of costal graft in the reconstruction of the mandible with intercosto-facial micro-anastomosis. The accent is placed upon the value of these grafts. They describe the methods for determination of the survival of the vascularised bone (X-ray, technetium pyrophosphate and labelled red cell bone scan, hyperselective arteriography and bone biopsy).

Arteries

[The temporomandibular joint in the newborn infant. Oto-meniscal relations].

Although they are anatomically immature at the time of birth, the temporomandibular joints are able to ensure efficient suction due to the branchial blastema interposed between the two articular nuclei. This conjunctive formation is the principal factor in the constitution of the meniscus and its frena, the articular surfaces, the capsule and the ligaments. This constitutes not only an embryological but also a functional entity. The joint runs the risk of paying heavily for this functional availability, by its relationship with the ear-drum which is a potentially infectious cavity. In fact, at birth there is still evidence of the original branchial continuum between the unknit tympanal and squamosal in the shape of the posterior meniscal frenum, the conjunctivo-vascular isthmus which puts the vascularization of the mucosa of the ear-drum in communication with the very rich vascularization of the neonatal temporo-mandibular articulation. Therefore, 1/3 of the so-called congenital temporo-mandibular ankyloses, apparently without cause, could probably be explained by the otomeniscal relationship existing in the new-born baby and continuing during the first few months of life in the atmosphere in the form of a conjunctivo-vascular link.

[Color discrimination in heterozygotes].

By the help of Rabkin polychromatics tables and of the AN-59 anomaloscope it is studied the chromatic eye sight at 33 heterozygots. The used tests have permitted the identification of the different types of heterozygots: heterozygots which transmit and manifest only one chromatic anomaly, double heterozygots which manifest clinical one or both anomalies and unmanifested clinical heterozygots. The study of the chromatic eyesight at men from the same family has confirmed the clinical diagnosis of the heterozygots type in every case.

Color Perception

[Secondary glaucoma after cataract surgery].

The analysis of 900 operated cataract cases shows that for 16 cases the secondary glaucoma has appeared 1,77 p. 100. As pathogenesis, in 5 cases by being late for recover of the anterior chamber, in 2 cases by vitrean obstruction, in 2 cases by the anterior chamber epithelisation, and in one case the secondary glaucoma has been post-haemoragical. The medical treatment has been diversificated according to the cause which has generated it, with normalisation of the ocular pressure and sight ameliorations in 50 p. 100 of cases. It is shown that the prophylaxis measures which are imposed for the far diminuation of the frequency in the secondary glaucoma cases after the cataract operation.

Aged

[The persistence of the Bergmeister papilla (author's transl)].

Persisting primitive papilla epithelialis is described in a 22-year-old woman. The papilla has blurred borders, a central papilla eminence and a yellowish colour. In addition pigmentary pseudoretinopathy with perivascular pigment deposits and hypermetropia with aplasia maculae occurred. This picture can be confused classically with pappilloedema.
