Chronic myelomonocytic leukemia presenting as a keratouveitis.

A case of chronic myelomonocytic leukemia is described in which the patient presented on two separate occasions with peripheral corneal infiltrates. On the first occasion the white blood cell count was high, and on the second the patient's leukemia had relapsed. Resolution of the eye signs occurred following local treatment and systemic chemotherapy.

Visual status of diabetic patients after pancreatic and other organ transplantation. Preliminary report.

Ten diabetic patients with secondary manifestations of their disease have undergone pancreatic transplantation either alone (2 cases), with a hepatic transplant (1 case), or with renal transplantation (7 cases). Two patients died within a short period of the surgery. Of the remainder, five patients retained pancreatic graft function for less than 6 months and none of these has shown any change in visual function. Three patients, all with background retinopathy, retained function in the pancreatic graft for 12 months or longer. One of these patients has had some regression of retinopathy and an improvement in visual acuity. The other two have shown no change in retinopathy, except transiently associated with systemic hypertension.

Iridocycloretraction in closed-angle glaucoma.

A small series of patients who underwent iridocycloretraction between 1969 and 1976 is analysed. All patients had previously undergone peripheral iridectomy for primary angle-closure glaucoma, and all had 360 degrees of peripheral anterior synechiae, as seen with the gonioscope. It was found that iridocycloretraction was successful in an unacceptably low percentage of cases, and its success was related to whether subconjunctival drainage was established. There was no clinical evidence to support the theory that its main mode of action was to permit access of aqueous to the trabecular meshwork. Therefore it has no practical advantages over other procedures which establish subconjunctival filtration.
