[Transcultural problems of child and adolescent psychiatry or sequelae of inverse migration? On diagnosis and treatment of children and adolescents of former East Germany in West Germany of the past].

Against a background discussion whether there has been a different cultural development within the two former German states, the question is raised, whether this possible difference could lead to different influences on psychiatric illness among children and adolescents. Problems in ethnological research in general together with problems found within cross cultural psychiatry are discussed. A study of a group of 19 children and adolescents, presenting at a psychiatric clinic with the historically significant if not seldom experience of inverse migration is described. From this population only n = 4 children appeared to be significantly affected by their new surroundings. It is proposed that further investigations is needed to ascertain whether the experience of inverse migration does indeed constitute a psychological stress for children and adolescents from the former GDR.

Eight-parameter PC-AT based flow cytometric data system.

An 8-parameter flow cytometric data system is described using an IBM-AT compatible personal computer (PC) and a commercial analog to digital conversion (ADC) board. A dedicated pulse processing interface adapts the flow cytometric pulses to the ADC board and controls the number of parameters to be taken up and the trigger conditions. The trigger thresholds are automatically held at a level immediately above the noise level. For the timing of kinetic measurements a linear voltage ramp of adjustable rise time is available. A built-in precision voltage source can be used for an overall calibration. The data system is operated by software written in assembly language. Data may be collected and processed in 1-8-parameter listmode or 1-3-parameter histogram mode. Functions are available for graphical color displays, numerical integration, multiparameter gating, and printing.

[Anorexia nervosa in the 2d generation? A case report].

By means of a single case study the origin and development of anorexia nervosa in the second generation is described. In this context questions of the nosological entity of anorexia nervosa and depression, motherhood and anorexia nervosa and pre-pubertal as well as postpubertal anorexia are discussed.

[Trisomy 8 mosaicism syndrome].

This is a report about a 12 year old boy with mosaic of trisomy 8 syndrome and with average intelligence. He has been treated about three years because of specific learning disabilities. There are indications in the literature about cases with similar development.

[Changes in inpatient utilization of a department of child and adolescent psychiatry between 1956 and 1985].

Of the 3142 patients admitted to the unit between 1956 and 1984, the histories of a sample of 766 patients (those from every fourth year) were reviewed with regard to 15 dimensions. Little change was found in social class or family size, whereas there was a marked increase in psychiatric disorders and a considerable decrease in neurological disorders and mental deficiency. The result was an increase in treatment duration, a decrease in the number of admissions and an increase in the proportion of patients readmitted. There were marked variations in the sex ratio over the years, but in 1984 the ratio was again the same as for the total sample (56 boys: 44 girls).

[Atypical osteodystrophy of visceral origin (author's transl)].

The authors report a case of atypical osteodystrophy of visceral origin (uretero-sigmoid by-pass for bladder exstrophy) which was characterized by the association of osteocondensation and looser-Milkman lines. They emphasize the rareness of osteodystrophy after uro-digestive by-pass and the exceptional character of the osteocondensation.

[Thrombosed carotid aneurysm and CT scan. Report on three cases].

Thrombosed intracranial aneurysms are always large aneurysms with a diameter superior to 25 mm. They are easily detected by computed tomography, but their diagnosis when they are located in the sphenoidosellar region may cause problems. Three cases of giant aneurysms have been discovered by CT scan over a period of 27 months.
