[The surgical characteristics of patients with postburn vascularized leukomas].

In order to avoid neovascularization of corneal grafts in keratoplasty, 3 variants of keratoplasty are proposed for surgical treatment of after-burn vascularized leukomas of category III and IV. The variants were used for treatment of 25 patients with sequelae after chemical and thermic eye burns of degree II and III. The variants of keratoplasty were differentially used depending on the severity and the character of cicatricial after-burn changes in the eye. The schemes of the variants are proposed. The analysis of immediate and remote results (from 5 months to 4 years) after the usage of the three variants of keratoplasty has shown effectiveness of the proposed reconstructive interventions, the expediency of a differential approach to the choice of the method of keratoplasty, the importance of using collagenic coverings for protection of the graft from a mechanic trauma, infection as well as for stimulating the growth corneal epithelium.

[The microsurgical treatment of penetrating wounds of the cornea with the use of collagenous materials].

The character of influence of a modified collagen possessing a prolonged antimicrobic activity on account of including into its molecule a preparation 5-nitrofuryl-2 acrolein of a nitrofurane series, on the healing of corneal wounds has been studied in 86 rabbit eyes and in 38 patients with penetrating corneal wounds. The results obtained have shown that surgical treatment of the wounds by using collagenic membranes in a form of applications under corneal sutures and as a plastic material for covering defects of corneal tissue stimulates a quicker reparation of the cornea, prevents filtration of the aqueous humor and development of bedsores under sutures as well as development of microbic infection in the wound.

[Combined cycles--a new form of advanced training for physicians. Initial experience and perspectives].

A new organizational form of postgraduate training of physicians was substantiated. Thus it became possible to combine high educational, methodological and scientific potential of the institutes (faculties) of advanced training of physicians with the possibilities of large hospitals in applied training of physicians. Combined specialized cycles on ophthalmology demonstrated a number of advantages of such training compared to the traditional techniques and also indicated some conditions for raising its effectiveness. Even now it is possible to expand the range of specialties on combined training of physicians and in the future to reorganize training of young interns.

[A method of treatment of open-angle glaucoma].

Describes a new surgical technique consisting in combination of trabeculectomy and formation of intrascleral drainage routes. Presents the immediate and late results of antiglaucoma interventions carried out according to the suggested method in 187 patients (200 eyes) with various stages of primary open-angle glaucoma.
