[Minor salivary gland lithiasis simulating a mucocele. Apropos of a case].

Lithiasis of minor salivary glands is often considered to be extremely rare. However, recent publications reveal that minor salivary gland calculi are not so rare. Clinical features are not always typical, so clinical misdiagnosis is possible. Clinicians have to be aware to make a correct diagnosis. A case of sialolithiasis of minor salivary gland mimicking a mucous cyst is reported.

[Temporomandibular joint problems in assessment].

Manifestations of function disorders of the temporomandibular joint may have the same expression whether their origin is a natural cause or trauma. It is not always possible to make a scientifically valid distinction between a consequence of external trauma and internal cause(s). Often, the only reasonable attitude is to state that a transitive aggravation of the former status has occurred after trauma.

[Should we or should we not extract impacted teeth?].

Do we have to remove the impacted teeth? The pathology of an impacted tooth is reviewed by the author as well as the possible complications of its removal and others treatment possibilities. Seeing the increase of pathology and operative complications owing to the age, the author propounds the management of immature impacted third molars when they are not in a propitious position or when the posterior eruption space is reduced. About the impacted teeth covered partially or completely by soft tissue, his advice consists too in removing them if they don't have the possibility to take up good position on the dental arch.

Ketorolac tromethamine for postoperative analgesia in oral surgery.

Sixty patients were randomly allocated to receive placebo or i.v. ketorolac tromethamine 30 mg during the induction of anaesthesia for dental removal. Pain score (VAS), mouth opening and oedema were evaluated. Pain intensity was assessed by the patient using a visual analog scale 1, 2, 6 and 24 hrs after surgery. Mouth opening and oedema were evaluated at the same times by an observer not implicated in the study. In ketorolac group, pain relief was better at each considered time (VAS: p < 0.001). Oedema was also significantly lesser. There was no difference in mouth opening. No side effect was observed. These data suggest that ketorolac reduces post-oral surgery pain and oedema.

[Idiopathic maxillary bone cavity].

Since buccal surgeons are sometimes unable to cure the so-called traumatic bone cysts, we reviewed the literature to find the most recent assumptions of its pathogenesis and the latest treatments proposed.

[Essential bone cysts of the jaw. Apropos of an unusual care].

After reviewing the literature, the authors present an unusual case of essential bone lacunae. These lesions involve part of the upper maxillary and the entire horizontal branch of the mandible. The diagnosis was confirmed by surgical exploration and histological studies. During the following 8 years, surgical curetting was performed three times, without producing a bony cicatrisation of the cavities.

[Review of the recent literature apropos of a case of Burkitt's lymphoma in the maxillofacial area].

A case is reported of a child of white race with a maxillofacial localization of Burkitt's lymphoma (BL), and recent published data on epidemiology, clinical and therapeutic aspects, histologic criteria and immunologic properties of this lymphoma reviewed. The association in Africa of BL with the Epstein-Barr virus, and with remarkably constant cytogenetic anomalies suggests the need to recall the oncogenetic hypotheses for this affection.
