The adhesability and behaviour of ceramic facings of telescoping adhesive elements from baked alloys were tested in prolonged experiments. It was shown that these materials stand up to all requirements if their preparation was properly carried out.
The introduction of firm fitting orthodontic appliances has increased considerably the treatment potential of adults. Many aesthetic and functional problems allow a more satisfactory solution through preparatory orthodontic treatment than was possible up to now by prosthetic means. Surgical measures can facilitate and complement this therapy. In addition dental orthopaedic measures must be stabilised by prosthesis for reasons of retention.
The exactitude of transferring castings was tested in two currently used methods of casting. Results showed that alginate casting from a remontage matrix and simple casting with IMPREGUM are sufficiently exact for clinical purposes. When the mixing relations between the casting substances is exactly maintained a transfer exactitude of +/- 0.11 is achieved by the methods tested. When there is a change in the relationship of the mixtures deviations of up to 0.20 mm occur.
Soft tissue plastics are indispensable in the surgical treatment oft chronic osteomyelitis (56 cases in 10 years). Myoplastics (27 operations) are simple, successful, but only suitable with stabile bones. The treatment of osteomyelitis in the distal parts of the extremities often requires additional skin flaps (25 operations), rarely free skin grafts.
The use of implants in bone represents an extension of prosthetic possibilities. Clinical cases are used to demonstrate how additional supports can be created by means of implants of Linkow-blades which allow the incorporation of periodontally damaged teeth into prosthetic care. In addition the use of transdental fixation in the stabilisation of badly loosened teeth is pointed out.
Macroscopic and microscopic findings made in the gingiva, lip, tongue and pulp tissue of monkeys show that from the histological viewpoint there are no objections to the use of Nd:YAG for sealing dental enamel and dentin.

An operative method for raising the alveolar ridge of the mandible is described. In connection with vestibuloplasty and lowering of the floor of the mouth, it provides a significantly improved base for dentures without involving the risks of free bone transplantation. In prosthetic treatment the temporarily disturbed sensitivity should be borne in mind. Follow-ups repeated after short intervals are necessary. Data on long-term experience is not yet available.
In a clinical study, follow-ups were made in 259 tangentially prepared VMK crowns. In 49,4 per cent of the cases, inflammatory changes of the marginal gingiva were found, 34.5 per cent discolorations were observed in the same region. Measurements of the marginal thickness of those 68 VMK crowns prepared in a dental laboratory showed that the average marginal thickness of baked crown margins was 1.13mm. Thus, it falls considerably short of the requirements of a satisfactory thickness of metal and ceramics, but largely exceeds the values given for a micro step. Because of these findings, it must be demanded that tangential preparation of metal ceramic replacement with the crown being placed into the gingival sulcus, be discontinued.
Tests made with Nd: YAG laser showed that it is possible to seal the surface of teeth with laser radiation using energy densities of 10 J/cm2 to 50 J/cm2. In-vivo experiments with monkeys did not show any demage to the pulp when these energy densities and radiation close to that in the dental office were applied.

The operating methods for Angle class II, 1 are described and a method developed in which a front teeth block segment in the maxilla is raised and palatally tilted. At the same time a front and lateral teeth block segment of the lower jaw is pushed forward and lowered. The method improves the profile as well as occlusion and requires only a minimum of prosthetical care.
