Perceived value-orientations toward premarital virginity of female virgins and nonvirgins.

Various studies have suggested an increase in the incidence of premarital intercourse among women with a corresponding decline in premarital virginity. The present study was conducted in an attempt to determine perceived value-orientations toward premarital virginity of female virgins and nonvirgins. It examined the possibility of different orientations for different virgin or nonvirgin classifications and motivations. Results suggested significant differences between female virgins and nonvirgins among ten value-orientation criteria.

Psycho-social variables of female rapees not reporting and reporting the first incidence of rape.

Rape statistics are difficult to assess due to differential definitions of the crime, the ratio of arrests resulting from reported complaints, and the extent of the numbers of unreported rapes, especially those regarding the first incidence of the crime. The present research was conducted to determine: 1. specific psycho-social variables associated with female rapees not reporting and reporting the first incidence of rape, and 2. a comparison of the similarities and/or differences of each, as well as 3. their influences on the women leading them to develop not reporting and reporting positions. Results suggested sixteen different variables important to female rapees not reporting and reporting the first incidence of rape. There were significant differences regarding which of these tended to be associated with either the women not reporting or reporting the rape act.

Attitude↗

Sexual inhibitions men live by: self-perceived attitudes toward coitus of retired aged males.

There is a dearth of empirical studies on the sexuality of the aging male and female. The present study was conducted to determine the affects of self-perceived negative attitudes toward sexual intercourse by aged males as inhibitory mechanisms of coital behavior. Results indicated the extent to which negative attitudes toward coitus do influence the sexual inactiveness or sexual activeness of aged males. They educed the self-perceived attitudes of sexually inactive and sexually active males regarding frequency of occurrence, rank-ordering, and similarities and differences for each group. Further, physiological and psychological implications of coital behavior and its relationship to love between aged mates are considered.

Affect of musical preference on anxiety as determined by physiological skin responses.

Music affects the emotional state of the listener as well as the individual's performance on sensory and motor tasks. The present research investigated the effect of musical preference on anxiety between: music and nonmusic majors; males and females of each group; and females and males, regardless of sex, to determine the interaction effect. Results showed that there were significant differences in responses between each of the stated groups.

Female virgin and nonvirgin psychological orientations toward premarital virginity.

Literature on premarital heterosexual intercourse suggest increases in its incidence, frequency and acceptance among college-aged youth. Simultaneously, the studies suggest a decline in female premarital virginity. The present study was conducted to determine perceived psychological orientations toward premarital virginity of female virgins and nonvirgins. It examined the possibility of different orientations for different virgin or nonvirgin classifications and motivations. Results suggested significant differences between female virgins and nonvirgins among ten psychological orientation criteria.

Self discrepancy between the perceived self and the ideal; self and emotional stability of stripteasers.

Self evaluations are made with reference to the perceived self and the ideal self. In the present research, an attempt was made to determine the extent to which low or high self discrepancy between the perceived self and ideal self of stripteasers affected their emotional stability. It examined the possibility of low or high levels of emotional stability based on the degree of the discrepancy. Results indicated the emotional stability variables and the affect of the different levels of self discrepancy on them.

Self-image and emotional stability of Oedipal and non-Oedipal male homosexuals.

The past several years have brought about some changes in the legal status of the homosexual in USA. In some states, the homosexual is labelled as a criminal; in others, homosexuality is not a legal affair. Psychological theories tend to consider the homosexual from two general positions: the Oedipal and the non-Oedipal. The present study was conducted to try to determine how Oedipal and non-Oedipal male homosexuals perceived their self-image and emotional stability. Significant differences were found between the two groups. Considering self-image, Oedipal subjects were found to be more negative. They had less self-worth, self-confidence and self-acceptance than non-Oedipal. They had more negative self-concepts, self-attitudes, and self-motivation. Oedipal homosexuals had less emotional stability. They had more emotional problems, shame, guilt, withdrawal, and depression than non-Oedipal subjects, as well as less success in sexual activity and commitment to the homosexual partner.
