Current views on sun protection.
The deleterious effects of repeated sun exposure have been identified in scientific studies over the past decade. Many of these effects can be prevented with regular use of sunscreens. Since the 1978 publication of the proposed Food and Drug Administration regulations regarding sunscreen preparations, many new and more effective sunscreen products have been introduced. Several products have been demonstrated to be highly waterproof and provide substantially more protection with sun protection factors up to 34. Public education on the prevention of sun-induced skin damage is essential.
