Ultrasonographic diagnosis of psoas hematoma.

Ultrasonic examination of 3 patients with psoas hematoma is discussed. The main feature is a well-defined transsonic mass situated in the psoas muscle, on longitudinal sections spindle-shaped and ovoid on transverse sections. Ultrasonography is recommended as the procedure of choice in a patient with bleeding disorder and an abdominal mass. Urography shows medial deviation of the homolateral ureter.

Gastrointestinal complications after renal transplantation.

In our series of 110 patients, 22 developed a total of 32 gastrointestinal complications after renal transplantation, leading to a fatal issue in 9 (41%). Upper gastrointestinal bleeding is to be regarded as the principal complication which, particularly in combination with liver failure due to Australia antigen positive hepatitis, led to death. Other complications were pancreatitis, diffuse oesophagitis, ileus, fistulae with abscesses, and malignancy. The radiological findings, pathogenesis and therapeutic results are discussed.

Skeletal changes after renal transplantation.

The skeletal changes which can occur as a result of immunosuppression, and in particular as a result of hypercorticism, are discussed with reference to the findings obtained in 110 patients who received one or more kidney allografts. The hyperparathyroidism which often persists even after renal transplantation, is briefly discussed. In 21 patients, a total of 55 localizations of epiphyseal aseptic necrosis were found. In 3 patients, moreover, four medullary infarcts developed. Three osseous inflammatory processes were observed in addition. The various radiological features and the possible aetiology are discussed.

Female gonadal exposure dose in routine diagnostic radiology.

Measurements of gonad doses received by female patients during routine roentgenology are presented. LiF dosemeters were used to measure the exposure doses in the vagina. With the aid of phantom studies, the ovary doses were calculated from the doses determined in patients. Their relationships to skin doses are shown. The results are tabulated. A comparison with results by other authors is given.
