[The role of genes of the system of mismatched base correction in genetic recombination of Escherichia coli].

A genetic system was elaborated to study intramolecular recombination of bacteriophages lambda and phi 80. Practically, the ideal complementation of nucleotide sequences in recombining DNA molecules is required to obtain recombinants resulting from RecA-dependent recombination in Escherichia coli cells. a hypothesis is proposed to which the correction of mismatched bases hinders recombinant formation during recombination of fully homologous DNAs. The increased yields of hybrid molecules during interaction of the same DNA in the cells with deficient genes for correction support the hypothesis as well as independent demonstration of mutation in a gene for correction according to the effect of the increased yield of recombinants. A series of Escherichia coli cells mutants with increased formation of recombinant clones has been obtained.

[Treatment of pain in patients with ischemic heart disease and osteochondrosis of the cervicothoracic vertebrae].

A total of 124 patients with coronary disease (CD) and vertebral osteochondrosis (76 males and 48 females) were examined. Extended vertebral osteochondrosis was diagnosed in 68 patients, cervical osteochondrosis in 29, cervicothoracal osteochondrosis in 27. The patients were investigated by means of spinal X-ray, electro- and vectorcardiography, tetrapolar rheography. Bicycle ergometry was used in 72 patients, and tele-electrocardiography in 52, to uncover latent coronary insufficiency. Anginal manifestations, cardiac as well as extracardiac in origin, were shown to be numerous and varied, with CD signs being combined with symptoms typical for vertebral osteochondrosis with the visceral syndrome. The treatment with antianginal drugs in combination with orthopedic procedures was effective in 92.6% of the patients.

[Mapping new structural genes of phage phi80].

A new set of am and ts-mutants of the phage phi80 was isolated. A series of lambdacI857h80att80int3 prophage deletion strains, extending for various lengths into the region of structural genes was generated and characterized in order to facilitate the mapping of the phi80 am and ts-mutants. Complementation test allowed to find out 5 new genes named 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24. The result of the deletion mapping of structural genes is as follows: 1-2-3-20-4-5-6-21-7-22-9-23-10-8-12-24-13.
