A supportive, successful refresher program.
A community hospital developed a nursing refresher program that offered emotional support to the participants. The support was evident preenrollment, during the refresher course, and in the orientation to employment. Twenty of 27 participants accepted positions at the hospital. A questionnaire sent after graduation indicated that more acceptance from staff nurses was needed in the early months of employment.
