This is a case report of a 23-year-old man with large tumours in both kidneys, which were the only manifestation of Burkitt's lymphoma. Following exploratory surgery and chemotherapy the patient achieved complete remission. Problems than can arise, with the diagnosis and with surgical treatment and chemotherapy are discussed.

An experimental oedema of the bladder wall was produced by electric coagulation current in 130 rats. The amount of oedema was calculated by determination of the difference between the weight of the freshly excised wet bladder and that after drying to constant weight. Thus, oedema of a fairly constant and reproducible amount could be produced. The effect of three different drugs on such oedema was tested (Na-Aescinat, 6-methylprednisolone, alpha-Chymotrase). After the application of Na-Aescinat and 6-methylprednisolone no significant oedema could be measured after 48 h. Using alpha-Chymotrase, there was no measurable influence on the oedema.

80 cases of urinary diversions by means of an ileal or colon conduit are reported. Indications and the operative technique with several variations especially of the bowel-ureter-anastomosis are described. The significance of intestino-uretero-renal reflux and the role of urinary infection in different compartements of the isolated segment are discussed: if the stoma is large enough no reflux can be observed; in the majority of cases infection is limited to the distal part of the segment. Urinary diversion by isolated bowel segments seems to be a safe procedure especially for the protection of the upper urinary tract, preferable to diversion into the non-isolated colon.

Kidneys in which pyelonephritic scars can already be observed radiologically are very sensitive to the dilatation, almost regularly following antireflux procedures: deterioration of renal function and progressing scarring may follow. - For these difficult cases a modification of the Grégoir Operation is proposed: 1 or 2 cm above the entrance of the ureter into the bladder wall the ureter is incised and a splint of small size introduced up to the renal pelvis. This splint is meant to remain as long as an uninhibited flow of urine through the operation site (the submucosal channel) can be consistently registered by image amplifier. - The described procedure has been executed in 12 cases without serious complications. In no case a postoperative dilatation of the upper urinary tract had to be registered. Further and longtime results will be reported.

Rats fed with 2% oxamide diet were considered as a model for the patient with a tendency to stone formation. Polyglycolic acid (Dexon) sary stream caused formation of oxamide deposits in a percentage as high as that observed with silk sutures. A high degree of toxicity was observed with the chosen concentration of oxamide diet (weight loss, mortality). The importance of oxamide concentration is underlined for further experiments on the influence of suture material on urinary infection and stone formation.
