Serum sperm antibodies unrelated to mumps orchitis.

In order to determine whether there is an association between mumps orchitis and serum sperm antibodies, we tested patients at the time orchitis was diagnosed (n = 7) and individuals who had had orchitis at least 1 month previously (n = 14). Data were compared with the results for a control group of blood donors (n = 20). Sperm antibodies were detected by the gelatin agglutination test of Kibrick, the tray agglutination test of Friberg and the ELISA. Clinically significant sperm antibody levels were not found in patients in the early stages of the disease. Four subjects tested post-disease were positive in the Friberg test and one was positive in the ELISA. One control serum was also positive in the latter test. Significant differences were not found between levels in patients in the early stages of the disease and levels in individuals post-disease, although the results of the Friberg test differed significantly between controls and former mumps orchitis cases. These data do not support the assumption of an involvement of humoral immunity against spermatozoa in mumps orchitis patients.

[The level of total estrogens in the urine of cryptorchid patients].

The authors carried out studies on total estrogens in urine of healthy men as well as in men with cryptorchidism. These studies were performed on 79 men, divided into the following groups: a control group of healthy men--31; nonoperated patients--5; operated patients with cryptorchidism up to the seventh years of age--7; operated patients with cryptorchidism between 7 and 12 years of age--15; operated patient with cryptorchidism over 12 years of age--21. The hormonal analysis of total estrogens in urine were made by the modified fluorometric method of Braun. The highest level of total estrogens was found by the authors in the men operated men with cryptorchidism, presenting mean values of means = 42, 1 M/mol for 24 hours. The results make strong impression that in all groups with of patients with cryptorchidism, operated and nonoperated, the total estrogens are increased twice in comparison with the control group of healthy men. These results question the role of the increased level of estrogens in the pathogenesis of distributed spermatogenesis and lacking fertile capability in men with cryptorchidism.

[Morphometric research on the germ and Sertoli cells in prespermatogenesis].

The author investigated the changes in the morphology of germinative and Sertoli's cells during prespermatogenesis of the rat. This problems were studied by morphometric investigations in 20 rats of Wistar strain, divided into age groups: newborns, 5, 10 and 15 postnatal days. The morphofunctional characteristic of these two types of cellular populations in immature rats showed existence of parallelism in the proliferation of these cells, the level of organization and interrelationships between them, which was of substantial significance for creation and further maintenance of an optimal microenvironment, needed for differentiation of sex cells.

[Congenital anorchism--the diagnostic and treatment problems].

The authors prove congenital anorchism by operative way as they recommend to think of congenital anomaly of testes--anorchism in all patients with lacking testis in the scrotum and inguinal canal. This anomaly is established in three patients. They propose a double hormonal stimulation with choriongonadotropin according to a fixed scheme as a basic diagnostic method in men with congenital anorchism. It is necessary to begin timely substitutive androgenic therapy in men with established anomaly. Usage of testicular prosthesis for correction of the cosmetic defect is one of the therapeutic stages of this congenital state. The prosthesis is of great psychological advantage in men with anorchism. Transplantation of testes is a future therapeutic method in patients with anorchism.

[An electron microscopic study of prespermatogenesis in rats].

The author carried out a study on the ultrastructure of germinal and Sertoli's column in sexual immature tests of 21 rats of Wistar strain, examined dynamically into the following age groups: newborns on the fifth and tenth days after delivery. After analysing the obtained results the following conclusion could be made: The lack of specific cellular sign of gonocyte to differential A-spermatogonia was a serious obstacle in the study of prepubertal development of male gametogenesis. Examining the differentiation of cellular populations in sexual immature testes of rats, the dynamic of proliferation and ultrastructural changes in the germinative Sertoli's cells, which transformed gradually into their specific structure of sexual mature tests, was impressive. Although the rather difficult determination of factors, coordinating interrelationships between these cells, should be taken into consideration, it is clear that the development of germinal cells could be described always in close connection with the surrounding Sertoli's cells, which play probably a basic role in initiation of their proliferation and entry in miosis.

[Immunological studies of patients with chronic nonspecific prostatitis and infertility].

The authors studied carried out immunological studies on 20 men with chronic nonspecific prostatitis at reproductive age as well as on 10 healthy men included into the control group. Correlative investigations were made on the morphology of the ejaculate as well as on immunological parameters of seminal plasma aiming to establish the degree of the disturbed fertility. The immunological investigations included determination of albumin, transferrin and immunoglobulins in the seminal plasma. In men with chronic prostatitis there was a reduction in the number of spermatozoa up to 39 mln/cm3 combined with lower motility and an increased percentage of teratoforms. The immunological studies showed statistically significant nonincreased values in all men with chronic prostatitis in comparison with healthy men of the control group. These results show that increased permeability of barriers of blood serum proteins participates in the pathogenesis of the disturbed fertility. It is apparent that the cause for sterility in the married couples is due to autoimmune process occurring in men with chronic nonspecific prostatitis.

[Hygienic evaluation of working conditions in furniture factories].

The studies embrace basic productive shops from two furniture enterprises with leading noxious factors of the work environment: toxic chemical substances, noise and vibration (local and general). The concentrations of nine chemical substances from the composition of the used acid-hardening varnishes (polishes) and carbamide-formaldehyde glue are defined. The total concentrations of the formed multicomponent mixtures of organic solvents are calculated. Data show that in a greater part of the work places are measured noise levels, surpassing the hygienic norms, from the range of medium to high frequency. The measured local and total vibrations are in the limits of the hygienic norms, provided that the exposure is limited to 15 minute daily. On the basis of the established concentration of the toxic chemical substances in the air of the work environment an assessment is made on the work conditions. The assessment is confirmed by the analysis of the objective changes in the examined specific biochemical, clinic and laboratory indices of workers. Conclusion is given that the workers from these work places are subject to high occupational risk.

[Experimental research on prespermatogenesis].

The author carried out experimental studies on prespermatogenesis, using 20 rats of Wistar strain, divided into the following groups: newborns, on the 5th, 10th and 15th day after delivery. Histomorphological study of the testicular tissue was made as two basic cellular types--germinal and Sertoli's cells in seminal cords of prepubertal period of the development of the rat were examined. The performed morphological characteristics of germinal and Sertoli's cells during the period of prespermatogenesis of the rat showed the existence of parallelism in the differentiation of the two types of cells. This parallelism and balance between the two types of cellular populations affects later on the normal formation and function of spermatogenesis, which is of substantial significance for the fertile possibility of individuals.
