Bioactive polymers 54. Pharmacological properties of modified neomycin.

Modified neomycin prepared by the ionic coupling on xanthan with an activity of 380 UI/mg was characterized in regard to its in vitro and in vivo release rate and therapeutic action with artificial tear eluent. The dynamic system in vitro release showed that after 4 h, there appears a "zero-order" kinetic. Ophthalmic inserts were prepared from modified neomycin and they are used in treating bacterial conjunctivitis. Sterilization of the conjunctival sac is obtained 12 h after insert administration.

[A traumatic glaucoma by epithelial invasion of the anterior chamber (author's transl)].

Taking into account the latest data described in the specialized literature, the authors present a clinical case of secondary traumatic glaucoma which was determined by a cystical shaped epithelial invasion of the anterior chamber. The patient was subjected to a surgical intervention and the final result was successful. The diagnosis and the treatment of these cases are discussed. The authors underline the importance of the correct treatment of the penetrated traumatisms of the eyeball.

[Ocular disturbances in asthenic neurosis and their treatment (author's transl)].

The author has studied over 200 cases of asthenic neurosis. The ocular manifestations could be classified into four clinical types according to the dominant ocular symptoms. 58.34% of these patients were female and 41.66% were male. 78% of the patients were between 20 and 40 years. 59% were students. In 75% of these cases a raised retinal blood pressure as an ocular manifestation was discovered. The ocular disturbances in asthenic neurosis are present especially in persons who regularly work more than 8 hours continuously. The treatment consists of physical and intellectual rest periods, sedatives, tonics, and connective tissue therapy with extracts of whole eyeballs. In 80% of cases we had favourable results.
