Immunotherapy of superficial bladder tumors: preliminary results with ImmuCyst--BCG Connaught, Toronto.

A clinical study has been started in 1991 with ImmuCyst (BCG Connaught) as a secondary prophylaxis in urothelial superficial bladder tumors (SBT) patients. Till now 31 patient have been entered into the trial and the results seem to be promising. Only 2 patients were excluded from the study. Side-effects did not extend in average the data quoted in literature and were easily managed. There were 4 recurrences confirmed by cystoscopy. Urinary infection was treated in 7 cases with current chemotherapeutic drugs.

[Surgical therapy of impotence with implantation of a penile prosthesis. The psychological status of the impotent male].

The results of a psychological examination of 22 male patients which requested a penile prosthesis implantation are reported. The mean age was 47 years and the intelligence score of the patients was higher than the normal value. In a personal self-judgement they described oneself as stable, minimally neurotic and rather introverted personality. The test results were complicated by a high lie score. A great difference between the self-judgement and the ideal was established. The sexual anamnesis of the most patients was not striking out of the erectile dysfunction.

Separation, quantification and identification of non-volatile organic acids in body fluids by gas chromatography.

The present paper concentrates on the analysis of non-volatile organic acids in physiological fluids. The solvent extraction and DEAE-Sephadex extraction of organic acids, respectively, seem to be the most widely used methods for isolation of this group of compounds from the biological matrix. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) is the preferred method for the separation, quantification and identification. In three tables organic acids are divided into the classes according to a functional group, a survey of alkylation methods is given and retention indices of common urinary organic acids on various GC columns are summarized.

Binding of indomethacin ester with tropic acid to human serum albumin.

The binding affinities of the ester of indomethacin with tropic acid and of indomethacin to human serum albumin were studied using the method of equilibrium dialysis. The binding constants were calculated from the experimental data by the Scatchard model. Binding to human serum albumin (14 X 10(-5) mol/l) was significantly lower for esterified indomethacin than for nonesterified. The tropic ester of indomethacin has an association constant for the primary binding sites of 2.16 X 10(5) l/mol, and while the association constant for indomethacin is 8.15 X 10(5) l/mol. The differences found between the binding affinities of the ester of indomethacin and of indomethacin may contribute to the different pharmacokinetics of these drugs.
