Pacemakers and prospective payment.
Cardiac pacemakers may be utilized to maintain adequate heart rates, or in some cases, help slow rapid heart rates. Several types of pacemakers are available, from simple fixed rate generators to expensive programmable devices. New PPS regulations require approval before implantation of permanent pacemakers. Detailed information about those generators must be reported. Medical record practitioners with a basic understanding of cardiac pacemakers will be best prepared to meet reporting requirements.
