An unusual case of intestinal invagination due to lymphoma of the last ileal segment serves as a basis for a review of the pathogenetic mechanisms underlying the invagination process and its different onset modalities. Special attention is paid to how chronic invaginations, as a result of their varied, unremarkable symptomatology, often involve mistaken or late diagnosis. The present case is noteworthy because of the summing of factors proper to primary invagination with those of secondary invagination. The hyperperistaltism resulting from the presence of a non-pedunculated mass acted on an intestinal segment in which the anatomico-functional conditions for the establishment of primary invagination were often present., All this was responsible for a chronic basic ileo-caecal invagination process, the cause of progressive limming with acute episodes of further advance of the invaginated part to the transverse colon. It was these acute episodes that gave clinical dignity to the insidious symptomatology reported by the patient thus allowing speedy, correct diagnosis of the ongoing neoplastic process and hence radical surgery with favourable prognosis.

Cancer of the appendix was found in a 69-year-old female patient affected by long-standing ulcerative colitis (UC). On histological examination the cancer was a typical cystadenocarcinoma of the appendix. The appendiceal mucosa not invaded by the neoplastic process was normal. Histological examination of the colorectal mucosa did not show dysplasia or cancer. These findings suggest that appendiceal cancer and UC may be unrelated diseases. A surveillance program for early detection of cancer of the appendix in patients with long-standing UC does not seem mandatory.
In a thorax surgery domain the V.A.T.S. is the important new treatment for particular thorax diseases. authors would like to show the advantages using V.A.T.S. for the therapy of peripheric lung nodules, also using a CT-guided extemporary cytologic tipization. The CT-guided biopsy and then an extemporary cytologic tipization, represent the first steps for lung nodules candidated to the V.A.T.S. These lesions have got singular aspects: benign lesions, methastasts, specific and unknown lesions. In that way traditional surgery is for primitive lung neoplasm in order to have a certain oncologic solution and because it is possible to test the complication of large resection. The CT-guided cytologic tipization can be done by a particular kit invented from the authors: a flessible needle works like an anchor and is a good repair of a nodule in order to proceed with V.A.T.S. This method has been utilized for 45 patients with good results.
Undamaged cling peaches, cv. "Halford", were artificially bruised in three positions of the halves exerting a pressure of 2, 4 and 6 kg/cm2, with a hand penetrometer. These peaches were canned at different times (2, 4, 8 and 16 hours) and stored for five months. The halves were then submitted to a "panel test" which revealed that all the bruised fruits were suitable to give rise to a good canned product.
For some years now, bronchial plastic surgery has given surgeons the possibility of radically treating patients with carcinoma of the lung that otherwise could not undergo surgery because of insufficient cardiorespiratory functional capacity as well as the peculiar endoluminal location of the neoplastic lesion. These methods, however, often show problems of dysventilation and bronchial engorgement that--in our opinion--are attributable to vagal denervation following surgical maneuvers. Hence, our study aimed at reproducing experimental surgical models of sleeve-resection in order to examine these problems. Consequently, we operated on 10 pigs divided into two groups (A end B) of 5 animals each; we performed surgery on the first five animals without removing vagal fibres, whereas in the other we have coupled sleeve-resection with vagal denervation of the residual parenchyma. All the animals have been followed-up by means of X-ray examination, bronchoscopy and direct stimulation of the cough-producing reflex (by means of the catheter positioned intraoperatively below the anastomosis). The data obtained confirm our assumptions, given that in "denervated animals" we observed a large engorgement of the respiratory tract with late onset of cough-producing reflex, while in the control group (without removal of vagal fibres) no bronchoplegic or alteration of the muco-ciliary clearance was found post-operatively. All animals, for the entire period of experimentation, received care in accordance with the "Principles of Laboratory Animal Care" formulated by the US National Society of Medical Research and the "Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals" (NIH Publication N. 80-23, revised in 1980).
