The author reviews the forces leading to a growing interdependence between hospital boards and medical staffs. He also suggests ways for the board to interact with the medical staff more effectively, including having board members present at medical staff meetings, involving the medical staff in board committee activities, and sending medical staff and board representatives together to conferences and seminars.
