The radiography essentials: an evolutionary perspective.

A review of all the Radiography Essentials since their inception in 1944 provides an insightful look into the history and dynamics of entry-level educational standards in radiography. As successive Essentials have been revised, more attention has been given to the clinical environment, a broadened and strengthened curricula and due process. Additionally, radiographers have gained greater autonomy in delivering professional entry-level education in radiography.

Radiology services survey of rural frontier hospitals.

Little has been written about rural frontier hospitals and the radiology services they provide. The authors surveyed rural hospitals in seven Western states, with emphasis on technologist accreditation, numbers and educational level of personnel, patient occupancy, test volume and referrals. They found accreditation, patient referral and employee credentialing to be a function of hospital bed size, while radiology department employment remained constant at 3 percent of the facility's total employment.

A history of computers and computerized imaging.

The computers has revolutionized diagnostic imaging, making possible techniques such as computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, sonography and computed radiography. This article traces the historical development of computers and demonstrates how their brief association with the radiologic sciences has transformed diagnostic medicine.
