[Comparison of the results from the population registers on January 1, 1995, with those obtained from the continuous population system].

"According to the enumeration from the municipal population registers of 1 January 1995 the Netherlands numbered 371 persons more than calculated [using] the continuous population system. The number of non-Dutch nationals however was 18 thousand (2.3%) and the number of foreign born persons 10 thousand (0.7%) lower. The causes of these differences are not fully known. The census of the municipal population registers of 1 January 1995 has in particular adjusted the file of non-Dutch nationals based on the continuous population system." (SUMMARY IN ENG)

[Multiple births in the Netherlands, 1900-1993].

Data on multiple births in the Netherlands since 1900 are examined. It is noted that "since 1975 the number of multiple births is increasing rather strongly, partly under the influence of the application of modern medical technology (e.g. hormone treatment) to infertility problems...." Age distribution by sex among paternal and fraternal twins living in the Netherlands is also discussed. (SUMMARY IN ENG)

[Record year for Dutch nationality grants in 1993].

"The annual number of non-Dutch nationals who obtained Dutch nationality other than by birth increased from more than 37 thousand in 1992 to more than 43 thousand in 1993. This strong rise was mainly due to the possibility since 1992 [of keeping one's] original nationality [when] obtaining [Dutch citizenship]." Information on migrants is included by age, country of origin, and type of regulation. (SUMMARY IN ENG)

[Decrease in the expectation of life at birth in the Netherlands during 1993].

"With a few [exceptions] the age-specific mortality quotients based on observations during 1993 [in the Netherlands] were higher than the 1992-based ones. The increase is strongest in the lower and the higher ages.... It can be shown that the most important contributors to the decrease of the expectation of life at birth for boys was due to increased mortality quotients in the age groups 55 1/2-60 1/2 years or over. For girls the age groups 65 1/2-70 1/2 or over are most important." (SUMMARY IN ENG)

[Non-Dutch nationals in the Netherlands on January 1, 1994].

"On 1 January 1994, 780 thousand non-Dutch nationals lived in the Netherlands, i.e. 5.1% of the total population. These figures only relate to people in Dutch municipal population registers who do not possess the Dutch nationality, thus excluding Dutch citizens born elsewhere." Data are provided on nationality, population growth, region of residence, immigration, motivation for migration, asylum seekers, marriage patterns, and non-Dutch nationals obtaining Dutch nationality. [Non-Dutch nationals in the Netherlands on January 1, 1992].

Data on non-Dutch nationals living in the Netherlands on January 1, 1992, are presented and discussed. "733 thousand non-Dutch nationals lived in the Netherlands, i.e. 4.8% of the total population.... The largest category of non-Dutch nationals...was Turkish (215 thousand), followed by the 11 EC nationalities together (176 thousand) and the Moroccans (164 thousand).... In 1991 the number of non-Dutch nationals in the Netherlands grew by 40 thousand, i.e. 5.8%. Age groups 0-4 (mainly due to birth) and 20-29 (migration) show the strongest increases." [Non-Dutch nationals in the Netherlands on January 1, 1993].

Trends in population size and growth and marriage patterns among non-Dutch residents of the Netherlands are analyzed and compared. "On 1 January 1993, 757 thousand non-Dutch nationals lived in the Netherlands, i.e., 5.0% of the total population. These figures only relate to people...who do not possess the Dutch nationality, thus excluding Dutch citizens born elsewhere. The largest category of non-Dutch nationals...was Turkish (212 thousand), followed by the 11 EC-nationalities together (183 thousand) and the Moroccans (165 thousand). These three groups accounted for over 75% of the total number of non-Dutch nationals. In 1992 the number of non-Dutch nationals in the Netherlands grew by 25 thousand, i.e., 3.3%.
