Leaf extracts of some Cordia species: analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities as well as their chromatographic analysis.

Leaf preparations of several species of Cordia are used in traditional medicine as remedies for osteoarticular diseases. The analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic activities in the rat of different extracts of C. francisci, C. martinicensis, C. myxa, C. serratifolia and C. ulmifolia leaves were studied. The results obtained showed that the petroleum ether and alcoholic extracts especially of C. francisci, C. myxa and C. serratifolia leaves have a significant analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic activity in the rat. The flavonoids and phenolic derivative content of the five species of genus Cordia leaves was investigated by TLC and determined by reversed-phase HPLC with an acetonitrile/water/acetic acid buffer solvent gradient. UV detection was carried out at 255 and 280 nm. Four flavonoid glycosides, robinin, rutin, datiscoside and hesperidin, one flavonoid aglycone, dihydrorobinetin, two phenolic derivatives, chlorogenic and caffeic acid, were evidenced and determined.

HPLC analysis of oleuropein and some flavonoids in leaf and bud of Olea europaea L.

Reversed phase high-performance liquid chromatography was applied for qualitative and quantitative analysis of secoiridoid oleuropein and some flavonoids in leaf and bud extracts of Olea europaea L. The RP-HPLC procedure is rapid and reproducible. The results of quantitative analysis, correlated with pharmacological activity, are reported here.

High-performance liquid chromatography and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy of flavonoids in Crataegus oxyacantha L. III--Analysis of 2-phenyl-chroman derivatives and caffeic acid.

High-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) and diffuse infrared reflectance spectroscopic techniques for qualitative and quantitative analysis of naturally occurring phenolic compounds in Crataegus oxyacantha L. have been applied. (+)-Catechin, (-)-epicatechin and a phenolic acid, the caffeic acid, were investigated in various extractives of Crataegus oxyacantha L. The reversed-phase chromatographic separation was achieved by a combination of isocratic and gradient elution.

High-performance liquid chromatography of flavonoids in Crataegus oxyacantha L. IV. Reversed-phase high-pressure liquid chromatography in flower, leaf and bud extractives of Crataegus oxyacantha L.

RP-HPLC has been used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of some flavonoids in flowers, leaves and bud extracts of Crataegus oxyacantha L. Peak identification was obtained by comparison with retention times of pure standard substances and by UV analysis. Luteolin, luteolin-3', 7-diglucoside, apigenin, apigenin-7-O-glucoside and rutin have been identified and determined.
