[Is splenectomy necessary in left-side pancreatectomy?].

The generally accepted method of splenectomy in distal resection of the pancreas in considered unjustified. In division of the main splenic arteries the spleen is vascularized by the short gastric arteries and veins and numerous collateral vessels. The author's propositions are confirmed by 15-year clinical experience.

[Rare pulmonary-pleural complications in pancreatitis].

Pulmonary-pleural complications are likely to occur in pancreatitis and pancreatic cysts. These complications are manifested as pleuritis, pulmonary abscess or mediastinal pseudocyst. The author describes his own cases of rare pulmonary-pleural complications and suggests some recommendations on refined diagnosis and surgical tactics.
