[Treatment of internal carotid artery occlusion and the ocular ischemic syndrome].

The picture of severe ocular ischemic syndrome (OIS) drew attention to and investigations (sonography and carotid angiography) showed extensive atherosclerotic damage of vessels on more levels by a 46 year old patient with ischemic oculopathy, venous stasis retinopathy and neurological difficulties. The successful desobliteration of a. carotis interna adjusted the neurological difficulties of the patient and stabilized visual functions.

[Rare ocular complications in patients with acute necrotizing pancreatitis].

The damage of the visual functions represents a very rare complication of acute necrotic pancreatitis. We have seen it in two cases. The first one in form of toxic damage of the optic nerve, the second one in form of abscess of the vitreous humour and the retina. Both patients were in relative stabilized state, not in the first peracute phase of the disease.

Unusual ocular findings in children's acute leukemia cases.

The most frequent ocular findings in acute leukemia cases of children and two of our own observations are presented in this study. Emphasized are all difficulties in fixing the diagnosis and the necessity of close cooperation between ophthalmologist, pediatrist and radiologist to prevent the irreversible ocular changes.

[Congenital stationary night blindness].

The clinical and electrophysiological data in 48 cases of congenital stationary night blindness (CSNB) are analysed. The existence of the complete (with only the cone part of the dark adaptation curve) and incomplete (some rod activity also present) form of this anomaly has been confirmed. The Schubert-Bornschein's type of ERG responses corresponds to the complete CSNB. After 12 years of observation period in some patients the diminution of both the a and b potential of the ERG curves but not the extinction of the ERG potentials has been found. PERG curves and PVEP responses in CSNB are normal. Two pedigrees of CSNB are presented. The first reflects the autosomal dominant mode of heredity in 4 generations, in the second pedigree (5 generations) it is not possible to estimate the mode of heredity.

[Visual function in hypophyseal tumors].

Visual acuity measured using the Snellen method in 29 patients with hypophyseal tumors amounts to normal or nearly normal values (6/9-6/6), with mean value of 0.75. Measuring of visual acuity with the more accurate "log MAR" optotype tables yields acuity values which decline with the severity of the disease from 1.04 to 0.87 with a mean value of 0.97. Not withstanding, in all of these patients markedly lowered contrast sensitivity values were found in all of the frequencies tested (1.15-29.25 c/deg). The use of the visual acuity determinations only is insufficient for early detection of functional visual disturbances in compressions of the visual pathway.

[Leukemic infiltration of the cornea in a patient with hairy-cell leukemia].

The authors describe the infiltrations of the cornea in both eyes of a patient (women) who suffered from leukaemia with "long-haired cells". The treatment was successful with 2-chlordeoxyadenosine (Leustatin). Knowledge of leucaemic infiltration in the cornea is accentuated for successful treatment in connection with basic disease.

[Eye manifestations of hypovitaminosis A].

Two cases of a heavy hypovitaminosis A (tumor of the pancreas and an insufficient resorption accompanying the syndrome of a short intestine) are presented. The eye symptomatology consisted of lowered dark-adaption curve, absent electrical reactivity and lowered contrast sensitivity. After restoring the normal vitamin A level in the blood the eye symptoms vanished.

[Isolated leukemic infiltration of the iris].

A boy 3 1/2 years old with the diagnosis acute lymphoblastic leukemia, in stage of high malignity, came to the Eye clinic in Hradec Králové. The clinical and haematological findings showed the remission of the illness but a leukemic infiltration with hypopyon had arised. The diagnosis has been done selon the clinic image of the eye and selon the ultrasound examination. The histologic finding showed also an infiltration of chorioidea, iris and ciliary body, an infiltration in the nuchal region, in the spleen and in testicles. The isolated leukemic infiltration of the iris can be the first sign of a relapse and is an indication to begin a relevant therapy.
