[Current trends in the health status of newborn infants and their mothers during pregnancy and labor under the conditions of an industrial city].
In order to scientifically validate the use of measures aimed at the reduction of the infantile and perinatal death rate, of importance is the assessment of the shifts in the structure of the child-bearing group of women and of the health status of their neonates. With this purpose in view, two populations of neonates born in a large industrial city in 1979 and 1986 were examined over time on the common methodological basis. With the reduction of the perinatal death rate being slow, there was an increase in the pathology incidence, occurring in the perinatal period in the surviving newborn and caused to a certain degree by the rise of the pathology incidence seen nowadays in women in birth.
