[Dystocia in a Grevy's zebra].

Dystocia in a Grevy zebra, caused by faulty position of the fetus, resulted in complete prolapse of the uterus and rupture of the uterus wall. Suturing, reposition and vaginal obstruction led to the total recovery of the Grevy zebra mare.

[Diagnostic imaging of pancreatic cancer].

Despite the multitude of the imaging procedures which are nowadays at our disposal the diagnostics of the carcinoma of the pancreas and particularly of the early carcinoma is now as ever difficult. On the basis of a multicentric team study about the diagnostic course in 62 patients with diagnosed carcinoma of the pancreas we conclude to an effective diagnostic proceeding. Hereby a broad use of the ultrasound diagnostics is to be demanded and the bioptic clarification of focal findings is early to be carried out. With the help of the serial CT the differentiation between chronic pancreatitis and carcinoma of the pancreas finds particular consideration, it was successful with a reliability of 84%.

[Series CT of hormone-active pancreatic tumors].

Localisation of hormonally active pancreatic tumours with serial CT has gained practical significance, although these tumours are rare. Its sensitivity was approximately 80%. The methodologic details and problems of image analysis and interpretation are discussed. The analysis of pathologic findings, normal vessel topography and artefacts is shown to improve the diagnosis of hormonally active pancreatic tumours.

[The diagnostic value of CT in siderophilia (primary idiopathic hemochromatosis)].

CT, due to its high resolution of density, is suitable, within certain limits, to quantify iron contents in the liver. - Diagnostic value and limits of dual-energy-computed tomography after 38 examinations, 31 of them in patients with verified haemochromatosis, are described: In a progressive state of iron overload a high correlation exists between results of computed tomography and usual reference methods of iron metabolism (iron determination by absorption spectrometry and histologic examination, serum-iron-level, serum-ferritin-level, relative transferrin saturation, desferal test). - With a specificity of nearly 100% CT shows a minor or medium iron overload only with low sensitivity. - Because of its noninvasive nature CT is an alternative method of biopsy in progressive liver disease with suspected hepatic siderosis.

[Diagnosis and differential diagnosis of portal circulation disorders using serial CT].

Density-time-series after intravenous injection of a contrast bolus allow a noninvasive evaluation of portal circulation function. Diagnostic accuracy was above 90%. We are reporting the diagnostic capabilities and limitations of CT in portal circulation disorder with special regard to a statistical evaluation of density-time-diagrams of liver and spleen by multivariate discriminant analysis.

[Successful therapy of secondary melanoma of the orbit with DTIC].

The authors report on cytostatic treatment of a secondary malignant melanoma of the left orbit in a 68-year-old patient. It was an inoperable tumor, extending parabulbarly and retrobulbarly, with erosion of the bone of the orbital roof and deep infiltration into the frontal sinus. The regression of the tumor following intravenous administration of Dacarbacine (6 series of 5 X 200 mg DTIC) is shown on computerized tomograms. A year after completion of chemotherapy there had been no recurrence; the patient then died suddenly from the sequelae of an apoplexy.
