Sonographic demonstration of simultaneous intrauterine and extrauterine gestation.

Simultaneous intrauterine and ectopic pregnancies are extremely rare. The diagnosis is usually made by laparoscopy and/or laparotomy. Three cases are presented in which the diagnosis was made during sonographic examinations by simultaneous demonstration of fetal cardiac motion in both the intrauterine and extrauterine fetuses. Early diagnosis of this condition significantly reduces the morbidity and mortality of both the mother and the intrauterine gestation.

Angiographic findings in liver amyloidosis.

Angiographic findings in a case of liver amyloidosis are reported. Focal amyloid deposits in the gastrointestinal tract, with irregularity and narrowing of intrahepatic vessels, may mimic an intrahepatic mass. A correct diagnosis can be obtained if the patient's history and angiographic findings are evaluated carefully.

Adrenal hemorrhage in the newborn with evidence of bleeding while in utero.

A case is reported of bilateral hemorrhagic adrenal cysts in a newborn. Evaluation of the patient included x-rays of the abdomen, excretory urography, retrograde pyelography and sonography. The presence of a faint calcification in the region of the right adrenal at birth and further progression of calcification in the same area suggest that some initial bleeding occurred in utero.

Unusual radiographic manifestations of cystic fibrosis.

The authors report 2 radiographic findings that have not previously been described in patients with cystic fibrosis: (1) the linear form of pneumatosis coli (2) large pancreatic concretions which resembled the pancreatic calcificaitons of hereditary pancreatitis. The patient with pancreatic calcification also had labile diabetes and episodes of ketoacidosis, unusual complications of cystic fibrosis.
