[Genetics of Hailey-Hailey familial chronic benign pemphigus].

Starting from 12 index patients with familial benign chronic pemphigus from 11 kindreds, systematic kindred examinations were carried out with 182 relatives. 11 pedigrees were established. In this process 6 patients out of 3 kindreds were identified additionally. 10 genotypic carriers of the disease were found of 30 examined relatives by a newly developed UV-provocation test. An autosomal-dominant hereditary pattern was proven for sure and with high probability, respectively, in 10 out of 11 kindreds by formal genetic genealogy-examinations. There was an incomplete penetrance in 3 kindreds. A sex-determined heredity of disease can be excluded. There was no association between familial benign chronic pemphigus and HLA-A, B, C-system.

[Histology of UV-induced epidermis reactions. 1. A contribution to the differentiation of sunburn cells].

The UV-induced reaction of the epidermis is marked be extra- and intracellular edema and intraepidermal vesicles. Characteristical is the appearance of sunburn cells. In semithin section they can be differentiated in two cell types: "fried egg cells" prevail as early type in the exsudative phase (type I), "dark cells" as late type in the degenerative phase (type II) of the UV-reaction.

[Keratoses with granular degeneration and their relations to each other. II. Heterophenotypic expression of hyperkeratosis (erythrodermia congenitalis ichthyosiformis bullosa), naevus hystricoides and Vörner keratosis palmoplantaris cum degeneratione granulosa].

By means of a patient suffering from epidermolytic hyperkeratosis, epidermolytic hereditary palmoplantar keratoderma VORNER and epidermolytic hystric nevus the relations of this keratinization disorders are shown. The different clinical symptoms in several patients are probable caused by pleiotropy.

Ultrastructural, lectin histochemical and immunohistological observations on Merkel cell tumors.

The clinicopathological and ultrastructural findings of 10 cases of Merkel cell tumor (MCT) are presented. Three patients died rapidly due to tumor dissemination. The tumor cells in eight out of the 10 cases were positive for neuron-specific enolase, however, all were negative for the ten polypeptide hormones examined, as well as for the argentaffin and argyrophil reactions. One of the patients had suffered from chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. Particularly in this case, but also in the others, the differentiation of MCT from a malignant lymphoma necessitated immuno-histological, lectin histochemical and ultrastructural studies. The focal peanut agglutinin positivity of the tumor cells in 6 out of the 10 MCTs seems to be a characteristic feature of these cells.

[Plasmoacanthoma. A contribution to the diagnosis, etiopathogenesis and nosology].

We report on a patient suffering from plasmoacanthoma which started from the right angle of the mouth and extended to the oral mucosa. The clinical tentative diagnosis of a malignant tumor was histologically supported by an immediate frozen section under surgery. Only histological examination of tumor material embedded in paraffin settled the diagnosis of plasmoacanthoma. On the base of mycological demonstration of Candida albicans on the tumor tissue, we discuss etiopathogenetic aspects of plasmoacanthoma as well as its nosologic position.

Factors of tonsillar involution: age-dependent changes in B-cell activation and Langerhans' cell density.

Incorporation of radioactive thymidine as well as morphological and autoradiographical investigations performed with isolated B and T lymphocytes of the tonsil show that first of all B cells are activated or proliferating. The combination of autoradiography with cytochemistry was the only means of detecting a few activated T cells. With increasing age the number of activated B cells decreases. A reduced number of Langerhans' cells acting as antigen receptors in the epithelium of the crypt is assumed to be one cause of this phenomenon. Tonsillar involution originates from both a decline in the antigen receptors and in the depletion of B-cell activation. Malfunctions in these processes give rises to pathogenic factors in chronic tonsillitis.

[Evidence for T cell activation in the tonsil].

The simultaneous autoradiography and the appearance of acid alpha-naphthylacetat esterase as a cytochemical T cell marker show that only in few T cells of the tonsil a DNA-synthesis takes place. Their labelling index is lower than a power of ten compared to B cells.

[The special problems of lymphangioma perioculare and hemifaciale (author's transl)].

The authors describe two cases of the rare disease lymphangioma hemifaciale. Every ophthalmologist should know this disease in view of the complications such as hemorrhage or erysipelas. Treatment methods are discussed. Furthermore, lymphangioma must be taken into consideration in the differential diagnosis of ptosis, protrusio bulbi, protrusio conjunctivae and congenital hemifacial hypertrophy.

[Standardization of indirect immunofluorescence for detection of autoantibodies (author's transl)].

Seven laboratories made a chessboard titration with a serum containing antimitochondrial antibodies and two conjugates labeled with fluorescein isothiocyanate. The variation of the plateau titer and the titer of the serum as well as the plateau-end point was slight with the exception of one case. The standardization of indirect immunofluorescence needs a close contact between the laboratories, the availability of reference sera and conjugates, and similar microscopic equipment.

[Potential secondary effects in pollen-desensitization with mixed pollen-depot-extracts in regards to foreign body granuloma (author's transl)].

Desensibilitation as a causal therapy in Pollinosis gets increasing importance in the last decennium. The rate of successful results is reported with 50-80 per cent. In general the rate of secondary effects by this therapy is very low. By use of Aluminium oxide as a material of depot the possibility of producing strange body granuloma must be considered. Own experience in this case is reported.
