[The principles of constructing a data bank applicable to the problem of physiological standards in space medicine].

The norm is a more complex problem in physiology and in space medicine in particular. Definition of norm and health concepts is analyzed. Classification of functional states based on the adaptation and homeostasis concepts is proposed. Various approaches to determination of a norm are described. Three types of the norms which are of significance for space medicine, namely rest norm, reaction norm, adaptive norm are identified. The structure of data bank containing information on the standards is described. The central data bank structure is considered.

[Estimation and prediction of functional changes in organisms in space flight].

The article is devoted to theoretical and applied problems of estimation of the organism functional state and a level of health. Transitive states between health and illness, between norm and a pathology, so-called prenosological states are considered. The level of health is determined by adaptable opportunities of an organism, a degree of regulatory systems tension and their functional reserve. As the basic methodical approach to an estimation of a degree of regulatory systems tension the method of heart variability analysis is described. The applied aspect of a considered problem is submitted by results of the researches which have been carried out in conditions of space flight. Changes of organism functional state at different stages of adaptation to conditions of long weightlessness are described. The mathematical model of functional states is submitted. Four types of the vegetative regulation, differing on the adaptive reactions in conditions of space flight are allocated. Results of researches of crew members of the International space station are submitted.

[Assessment and prediction of health status of the Mars mission crew members].

The scientific concept of health assessment and prediction in a piloted mission to Mars has been built on the principles of pre-nosologic diagnostics, i.e., identification of the norm-pathology borderline states. The article deals with the medical care policy for the mission, and specific techniques and technologies. A three-level system of health assessment and prediction is proposed. Innovative approaches to evaluation of the body control systems during long exposure in microgravity have a footing of ground-based and space experimental investigations. Namely, these include evaluation of the cardiorespiration autonomous regulation and body functional reserve assessment by noninvasive recording of physiological signals in sleeping crewmembers before and after mission.

[Medical problems of the automated control of astronauts' health].

A typical structure of an automatic complex for dynamic medical monitoring of the health status of crewmembers in space is described. Algorithms of medical data processing and data imaging are discussed. Approaches to automatic diagnosis of functional states are presented. Advanced automatic systems related to medical support of future flights to Mars are described.

[Problem of automated evaluation of the functional state of the body in current aerospace and preventive medicine].

The methodology of evaluating the health status of the normal man is discussed. Special attention is given to the boundary states between the norm and pathology, i.e. ++pre-nosological and premorbid states. The development of automatic systems for evaluating the functional state of the human body is described. A motor-borne automatic system "Autosan-82" is described as a ground-based analog of a space system of medical monitoring. Also, a description of present-day automatic systems "Control", "Vita", and "Rhythm" is given. They can provide health evaluation at three levels: 1) preliminary assessment and identification of subjects in different health conditions; 2) diagnosis of functional states, identification of risk factors, and potential profiles of pathology; 3) medical examinations by specialists in different medical disciplines of subjects with potential pathologies or detailed evaluation of reserve capabilities of health subjects.

[Preliminary results of studies of the cardiovascular system in members of the 2d expedition in the Mir orbital station].

Three crewmembers of the second expedition onboard Mir were examined. Their physiological data (bioelectric activity of the heart, phasic structure of the cardiac cycle, circulation parameters at rest and circulation responses to exercise ergometry tests and LBNP tests) were monitored and transmitted to the Earth. This paper presents the physiological data obtained, their interpretation and conclusion that the Commander during his longest-term flight remained in best shape. Individual responses of each cosmonaut in terms of adaptation to flight conditions are discussed.

[Contractile function of the heart during weightlessness according to the results of 3-dimensional ballistocardiography].

In the joint Soviet-Indian space flight the method of spatial ballistocardiography was used to investigate the cardiac function in flight. The piezoelectric transducer was placed between the scapulae and its orientation was varied relative to the three axes of the body. Measurements were taken twice before, twice during and twice after flight. Ballistocardiograms were analyzed in terms of their amplitude, time and spectral parameters. It was found that in microgravity the energy of cardiac contractions developed spatial redistribution. It was also demonstrated that the cardiovascular function showed individual variability.
