Sympathetic innervation of blood vessels in rats with aortic constriction hypertension.

The adrenergic innervation of blood vessel wall was studied in various vascular beds of adult rats with experimental hypertension induced by the constriction of the aorta between the origins of both renal arteries. A moderate expansion of body fluids was demonstrated in this hypertensive model. The decrease of the density of adrenergic plexus in the vessel wall as well as the diminished catecholamine fluorescence were found only in renal vessels. These changes were pronounced in the left renal artery and vein even if the left kidney was not subjected to elevated blood pressure. Thus the alteration of vascular adrenergic innervation in hypertensive rats is not a consequence of high blood pressure but it seems to be a part of neurohumoral pathogenetic mechanisms.

Pattern and innervation of pial microvascular effectors which control blood supply to cerebral cortex.

In experiments with adult rabbits the active microvascular segments located at particular sites of the minor pial arterial ramifications were investigated. These appeared as sphincters at off-shoots of the arterial branches, the precortical arteries, and the arterial microanastomoses. The sphincters and the precortical arteries were found plentifully supplied with the cholinergic and adrenergic nerves, but the innervation of the microanastomoses was not considerably different from that of the adjacent arterial branches. The nerves of the precortical arteries were in direct connection with the nerve fibers of the arterial branches located inside the cerebral cortex. The pattern of distribution and innervation of the active vascular portions in pial microvascular bed suggests the probability of a neurogenic control of the blood supply to the smallest areas of the cerebral cortex.

[Formation of the ultrastructure and adrenergic innervation of magistral vessel walls in chicken ontogenesis].

Histochemical and electron microscopic investigation on dynamics of ultrastructure and adrenergic innervation formation in the wall of the femoral artery and vein, in the mesenteric artery and vein and in the aorta has been performed in 10-20-day-old chick embryos and in chickens during first days of life. In the course of embryogenesis, myoblasts of the media tunica have been demonstrated to transform into highly differentiated and strictly specialized smooth muscle cells. Simultaneously, neural fibres from the periphery of the vascular wall gradually penetrate up to the border of the external tunica and tunica media and varicosities with axoplasmic vesicles appear along their course. Owing to these two processes, by the time of hatching, the vascular wall has possessed a certain morphological substrate for the neural-muscular relations.
