Percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography with the Chiba needle.

Ninety patients with suspected pathology of the biliary tract were submitted to percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography. Forty-two of 43 dilated biliary tracts and 32 of 47 without dilatation were successfully entered. Except for fever following the procedure in two patients, there was no major complication. This technic was of prime importance in the management of patients with suspected pathology of the biliary tract.

[Percutaneous transheptic cholangiography with the skinny Chiba needle].

In 40 patients percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography was performed by means of the "skinny" Chiba needle. The intrahepatic bile ducts were visualized in 100% of the patients with dilated ducts and in 67% of those with ducts of normal calibre. The results compare to those in the literature and demonstrate the usefulness as well as the reduced morbidity of this new procedure. Therefore nonvisualization of the intrahepatic bile ducts by this method signifies that the ducts are not dilated.

Hepatic paraplegia.

A 53-year old cirrhotic patient is presented with spastic paraplegia as a sequel of chronic hepatic encephalopathy accompanying a spontaneous portasystemic anastomosis. We describe the clinical picture with the investigation, followed by a brief discussion on this rare syndrome.
