[Commune prison camp's health care and Versailles military hospital share].

Between June 1871 and December 1872, about five thousand prisoners were kept in Versailles among some places of detention. This high death rate was indebted for worst hygienic states (individual or collective) and food wretched quality during first weeks. Military Health Service, under Hippolyte Larrey's management with Adolphe Thiers and staff assent involved living conditions owing to tubs and toilets not forgiving accurate clothes and well-balanced food. In every prison was fitted and infirmary managed by a military physician. Sick people were sent into hospital. Versailles city's archives show that, during 1871, 154 insurgent people died in the military hospital while the number dropped to 55 during 1872.

[The key function of the military hospital at Versaille to the army responsible for winning back Paris during the insurrection of the commune (March-May 1871)].

The military Hospital of Versailles standing near the seat of the Government and the Assemblies played an important role in the organization of the sanitary services of the Versailles army. Hippolyte Larrey, chief physician of the army decided in agreement with Thiers, head of the government that the military hospital will primarily receive all the wounded soldiers evacuated from the front lines and all the patients from the various regiments of the Versailles army. To satisfy the numerous hospitalisations, annexes were opened in Versailles, the hospital capacity being extended to 2600 beds. In proportion of the troops progression towards Paris, the evacuation plan of the wounded soldiers will be modified the delays of evacuation towards Versailles becoming too long, by the creation of campaign hospitals and by sending wounded soldiers to the military hospitals of Paris (Val-de-Grâce and Gros Caillou) and to some ambulances established during the siege of Paris.

[Fistulography. Results of 126 examinations (author's transl)].

The authors describe the results obtained in a series of 126 patients examined by fistulography. This investigation should be conducted systematically after operative treatment of any type of fistula. The procedure involves perfusion of a water-soluble iodized contrast medium at low pressure, using a balloon sound to ensure that there are no leaks. The results supply the general or orthopedic surgeon with the information necessary for deciding the operative procedure to be used.

[Arthrography of the wrist: procedures and normal results (author's transl)].

The results of 31 opaque arthrographies of the wrist carried out under two different circumstances are reported. --In a first group the investigation was made immediately after or within a longer period following injury to the wrist or forearm. The results supply information to the surgeon on the condition of the triangular ligament in dislocation and partial dislocations of the inferior radioulnar joint, caused by an architectural fault in the radius after trauma (fracture of the head, diaphysis, or lower extremity). Simple reduction of the radius, without intervention on the inferior radio-ulnar joint, provides an excellent functional result when the triangular ligament is simply stretched. When it is torn (sprains, dislocation locally or at a distance) results are not very convincing in spite of the many possible procedures available. Arthrography easily reveals the presence of a reflex dystrophy complicating the injury. Both the radiological and clinical signs give characteristic pictures of the condition. --This examination is still only used infrequently for the diagnosis of chronic inflammatory rheumatic diseases. The arthrographic images appear very early, however, and are characteristic of an inflammatory synovial lesion. Examinations were carried out mainly for evaluation before therapy, surgical in the case of a synovectomy, medical for a chemical or isotopic synovial treatment. Arthrography in a acutely inflammed joint is followed by an injection of corticoid, sometimes associated with a local antibiotic. This rapidly relieves the patient and prevents worsening of the acute inflammatory process. Arthrography of the wrist is a simple, painless, rapidly performed examination. There has never been a failure, any incident, or accident. It appears to be the only direct exploratory procedure for this joint. A precise anatomical evaluation can be made from the image which gives a true picture of the different anatomical structures.

[Pseudotumoral rheumatoid coxitis (author's transl)].

Two cases of rheumatoid coxitis of the macrogeodic type are reported. In one case, there was a very large anfractuous cavity in the socket and head, complicated by a pathological fracture of the socket, which raised the suspicion of a malignant tumor. The authors review the characteristics of these macrogeodic forms of rheumatoid arthritis, about forty cases having been reported in the published literature.

[Partial algodystrophy].

The authors describe, on the basis of 7 cases, a special form of decalcifying algodystrophy not described in the literature, characterized by a very localized pain beginning gradually, or more often suddenly. It is of mechanical or mixed type, accompanied by local, pseudo-inflammatory signs being either apparent or discrete, very elective and very sharp pain upon palpation of a very limited area of a condyle or a tibial plate, with hyperfixation located through scintigraphy with technetium 99m polyphosphates, and regressing either spontaneously, or more quickly under treatment, of which thyrocalcitone is the essential part, without undergoing a phase of intense loco-regional demineralization. This form of algodystrophy, that they propose to call partial algodystrophy, can, like the other forms of algodystrophy, appear in monofocal or plurifocal form, either straight off or at a distance from the first incidence, which leads this new radioclinical type to be considered a simple form of algodystrophy of the limbs, midway between the types without radiological anomaly during development and the complete and extensive ones with major radiological signs. Finally, they underline the great value or scintigraphy in diagnosing this form of algodystrophy and algodystrophy without radiologic anomaly.

[Arthropneumotomography in recurrent dislocations and subluxations of the shoulder. Methods, results, and indications in 45 cases (author's transl)].

The authors describe the results of arthropneumotomography in 45 patients with recurrent dislocations or subluxations of the shoulder. The method used is given in detail and the need for excellent quality glenoid profile sections, as described by Bernageau, is emphasized. The results are analyzed for bone lesions, capsuloligamentary lesions, and intra-articular foreign bodies. The two latter conditions are specifically demonstrated by arthropneumotomography. These results are then described radiological and surgical correlations, and the indications defined. Arthropneumotomography is therefore of value when a decision is to be taken as to the need for operation.

[Fatigue fractures of the metatarsal bones].

The authors report 145 cases of fatigue fractures including 125 of the metartarsals. They compare this distribution that reported by others, in particular in German work. After study of the different types of clinical picture the authors emphasize the importance of repeated and high quality radiological examinations. They describe the four stages of radiological evolution. Each of the images taken out of its context is misleading. They may lead to the diagnosis being missed and thus should be well known.

[A duodenal schwannosarcoma with hepatic metastases (author's transl)].

The authors present a case of duodenal schwannosarcoma, a rare tumor revealed by an ordinary dyspeptic syndrome. Radiological examination of the stomach revealed the presence of an internal paraduodenal diverticular picture. Arteriography showed the hypervascularized tumor as well as its extension and hepatic metastases.
