A study on the bronchial innvervation of the male Perdicula asiatica (Uungle Bush quail) by cholinesterase technique.

Ganglia of various shapes (rounded and oval) and sizes (large, medium and smaller) either arranged in chain like fashion or in free form, lying on the wall of the bronchi and their branches, were recorded. The preganglionic and postganglionic nerve fibres formed the meshwork on the bronchi. The postganglionic fibres of the bronchial ganglia and the fibres of the peribronchial plexus, were either connected with the fibres of the plexus on air cavities or with the myelinated fibres of the plexus of muscles in the intraparenchyma. Groups of AChE-positive nerve cells were recorded in the lung lobule.

Neuro-histochemical study of the tongue of Gallus domesticus (White Leghorn).

An investigation was undertaken to study the neuro-histochemistry of tonue of Gallus domesticus (white Leghorn) by cholinesterase technique under maintained pH of 5.2, temperature 40 degrees C and incubation period 20 h, and Ungewitter's silver impregnation method. Fungiform (8--16 in number), filiform (5--16 in number), circumvallate and foliate (numerous) were recorded profusely innervated in the various regions of the tongue. Neuro-muscular spindles related either with the non-myelinated, myelinated nerve fibres or with the ganglia via pre- or postganglionic nerve fibre showed cholinesterase (AChE) positive activity in the form of dark brown patches. Neural network over the glands, formed the basket envelope likestructures. Glands showed positive cholinesterase (AChE) reaction on the periphery. Dot-like nerve endings were connected with the neural terminal network in the foliate papillae region and motor end plate like endings on blood vessel, were occasionally recorded. Parasympathetic ganglia of various shape and sizes, arranged in chain-like fashion were observed in the connective tissue space between the fungiform and circumvallate papillae and foliate papillae region. The pre- and postganglionic fibres of these ganglia were related with the anteriorly and posteriorly located papillae via the neural terminal network. Cholinesterase (AChE) activity was marked either in the centre, of the fungiform or on the periphery of the filiform, circumvallate and foliate papillae.

Comparative neurohistological observations on the intrinsic innervation of pancreatic artery (blood vessel) in the representative of bird and mammal.

The present investigation was undertaken for the study of the comparative neurohistological observations of pancreatic-Artery (blood vessel) in Gallus domesticus (white leghorn) and Suncus murinus (Indian musk shrew) by cholinesterase technique. In Gallus, the innervation of arteries (blood vessel) was by a good number of non-myelinated nerevs, which formed the periarterial plexus in participation with the postganglionic fibres at one end and the fibres of the nerve cells of the other end. In Suncus, the periarterial and AChE-positive ganglia were arranged in chain-like fashion on the periphery of the artery. Periarterial plexus was formed by tortuous, myelinated nerves and the nerve fibres of the ganglia.

Study on the nerve endings in the pancreas of Rattus rattus refescens and Gallus domsticus as revealed by the cholinesterase technique.

An investigation was undertaken to study the nerve endings in the pancreas of Rattus rattus rufescens and Gallus domesticus by cholinesterase technique. Bulb-like nerve ending in the connective tissue (negatively stained) and dot-like nerve ending in the lobular cells were recorded in Rattus. Dot-like nerve ending on the periphery of the lobular cells and bulb like nerve endings connected with nerve bundle, were recorded in Gallus. Nerve endings were AChE-positive in nature in both Rattus and Gallus.

Neurohistological and histochemical observations on the lung of Francolinus pondicerianus (gray partridge or safed teeter) as revealed by the cholinesterase technique.

An investigation was undertaken to demonstrate the neural elements of the lung of Francolinus pondicerianus, from the point of view of neurohistology and histochemistry. The staining of the neural elements was done by the cholinesterase technique with a maintained pH of 5.2, temperature 40 degrees C and incubation period of 19 h. Distribution of nerves in association with bronchial cartilage, pulmonary vessels and bronchi has been described and discussed. The distribution of the ganglia in association with blood vessels, bronchi, cartilage, various plexuses and the neural terminal terminal network has also been described. The innervation of the bronchi and their branches, and formation of the neural terminal network has been studied, as well as the distribution of cholinesterase in bronchi, blood vessels, muscles, ganglia, and nerve fibres.

Neuro-histochemical observations on the pancreas of Francolinus pondicerianus (grey partridge or safed teeter) as revealed by the cholinesterase technique.

The sharpness in the staining of the neural elements with associated structures was maximum under maintained pH of 5.2, incubation period 19 h and temperature 40 degrees C, by cholinesterase technique. Innervation of the pancreas with reference to blood vessels, pancreatic duct, and islets of Langerhans has been studied in Francolinus pondicerianus (grey partridge or safed teeter). The fibres of the periarterial plexus, periductular plexus and the periinsular plexus were closely related to each other and were finally connected to the ganglia. Ganglia were distributed in the lobular cells and connective tissue space. They were large, small and medium and varies in shape, being rounded, oval, and elongated. Distribution of AChE activity was observed in various ganglia, nerve cells, and nerve fibres.

Effect of pH, temperature and incubation period on the study of intrinsic innervation of various organs by thiocholine technique in certain vertebrates.

The adrenergic fibres can be demonstrated if the optimal time and temperature are maintained. The cholinergic fibres were demonstrated at pH 5.2, incubation period l4h and temperature 37 degrees C. To ascertain the cholinesterase activity in tongue, heart, lung(birds, mammals and reptiles), gizzard and proventriculus (birds) and penis (rat and embryo of squirrel), pH 4.9, 16h incubation and temperature 37 degrees C, were quite suitable. It was possible to demonstrate the intrinsic innervation in tongue, lung, heart (mammals, birds and reptiles), gizzard and proventriculus (birds) and penis (rat and embryo of squirrel), at pH 5.2, 20h incubation and temperature 40 degrees C.

Neurohistological and histochemical observations on the lung of Rattus rattus rufescens (Indian black rat).

The intrinsic innervation of the lungs (right and left) has been studied by the cholinesterase technique, considering the effect of various pH, incubation periods and temperatures. Cholinergic innervation dominated. The peribronchial ganglia, large, medium-sized and irregular-shaped, rounded and small, showed a positive cholinesterase reaction. Maximum ChE activity was noticed in the bronchi and their branches and on the periphery of the alveoli.

Anatomical, neurohistological and histochemical observations on the tongue of Francolinus pondicerianus (grey partridge or safed teeter).

The staining and demonstration of neural elements in relation with other associated structures was most satisfactory at pH 5.2, incubation period 20 h, and temperature 40degreesC. Ganglia of various shape and size were observed on or near the fungiform, filiform and foliate papillae. In the region of the fungiform papillae, a chain of ganglia (parasympathetic) was observed. The nerve cells of these ganglia showed cholinesterase (ChE) activity. The neural networks of the foliate papillae were connected with the neural terminal network and occasionally to the ganglia. The innervation of blood vessels (artery and vein) was profuse. At times ganglia were noticed on the periphery of the artery. Neuromuscular spindle-like structures were noticed occasionally. Dot-like free nerve endings were also observed. The ChE activity was very marked in the muscle fibres lying in the region of the circumvallate papillae but was less marked in the muscle fibres lying in the region of the filiform and fungiform papillae.

Observations on the intrinsic innervation of the islet of Langerhans of Rattus rattus rufescens (Indian black rat).

The innervation of Langerhans' islets appeared rather profuse. Generally the nerve fibres of the peri-insular plexus formed a basket enveloping the islet of Langerhans. The peri-insular ganglia were occasionally seen. No autonomic interstitial cells of Cajal nor nerve endings were observed in the islet of Langerhans, due to the thickness of the sections. The 'complexes sympathico-neuro-insulaires' were occasionally seen. The plexuses and neural terminal network were seen connected to each other; thus they are not separate entities.
