[Vegetative parameters under the effect of ouabain (g-strophanthin) in endogenous depressive patients. 1. The salivation rate].

In 7 healthy test persons and in 17 endogenous depressive patients the salivations rate was measured in a survey investigation with the SHP-test. The salivation rate of healthy test persons is constant. In endogenous depressive patients it develops a diminishing of depression depth under treatment with Ouabain (g-Strophanthin) between the 6th and the 12th day which is connected with reduction of the drive diminishing and the restauration of mood. The effective salivation rate is gaining. Possible principles of the influence of Ouabain are discussed.

[Separation of enriched synaptosomes, synaptic vesicles and synaptic plasma membranes].

A rapid and simple method is described for separation of intact synaptosomes, synaptic plasma membranes and vesicles. Two synaptosome fractions were obtained by modified differential centrifugation. The rate zonal zentrifugation in a linear sucrose gradient (very low density) is suitable to obtain fractions highly enriched in synaptic plasma membranes and vesicles. Examination of the prepared fractions was done by enzyme marker activities and electron microscopy

[Pathophysiology of delirium].

Based on a series of known facts on clinical findings and changes in the metabolism of chronic alcoholics and delirious people the possible pathomechanism of cerebral imbalances is presented according to a synopsis. The clinical symptomatology, in particular vegetative symptoms and the coordination of reflexes - to which more attention should be paid than has been up to now - make delirium appear a diencephalic illness, the sympathicotonic and ergotropic development of which together with a preponderance of noradrenergic-adrenergic mechanisms, remains unexplained to this day.

[Dangerous side effects of lithium therapy].

A report is made on two cases of a pharmacogenic delirium as a result of combined lithium-haloperidol therapy, and on one case of lithium-induced diabetes insipidus renales with second-degree high pressure. Also, the development of a hydrocephalus internus male-resorptivus through lithium is discussed. In all patients there was a possible disposition due to old age or cerebral injury. Based on their effect on synaptic transmission the potentiating effect of lithium and haloperidol is discussed. Under the influence of Na-K stimulated ATPase and, thus, of active transport and adenylcyclase a basic mechanism of lithium therapy and its side-effects is seen.
