[Long-term results of formaldehyde].

General and relatively specific regularities in changes of metabolic reactions (according to the activity of certain enzymes of lysosomes, mitochondria, liver and blood serum sialoglycoproteins content, urine excretion of glycoconjugates) in sexually non mature rat offspring, chemically exposed during embryogenesis, were detected.

[Comparative biochemical and electron microscopic research on the membrane-damaging action of a chemical carcinogen on the endoplasmic reticulum in vivo and in vitro].

The results of a comparative biochemical and electron-microscopic study of membrane-injuring effect of N-nitrosodimethylamine--a chemical carcinogen widespread in the environment are reviewed. It has been established that in vivo and in vitro membrane-injuring effect of nitrosodimethylamine is characterized by reduced activity of membrane-bound enzymes of endoplasmic reticulum (UDP-glucuronyltransferase and glucose-6-phosphatase) accompanied by alterations in functional morphology of cells and intracellular structure.

Theoretical substantiation and recommendations of a system of biochemical criteria for the evaluation of the pre-pathological state due to the membrane-damaging effect of environmental factors.

Generalizations derived from experimental studies of enzymic disorganization and stability of membranes of cellular structures (microsomes, mitochondria, lysosomes, cytoplasmic membrane) of various organs and systems (liver, kidney, lung, brain, placenta, gonads, alveolar macrophages and others) due to hepato-, neuro-, gonado-, embryotoxic, mutagenic and carcinogenic effect of chemical pollutants of the environment are presented. Evaluation of the membrane-damaging effect taking into account the stage of labilization of biomembranes (according to severity of manifestation) and compensatory defence reactions at the moleculo-cellular level (alveolar macrophages) is recommended. Classification of biochemical methods (according to priority) is proposed for the evaluation of early functional changes during the examination of the health state of the population in dependence on the effect of environmental factors.

[Functional state of cells and intracellular structures exposed to regeneration stimulators at early stages of the membranotropic effect of environmental chemicals].

The authors provide the biochemical, morphological and morphometry data on the functions of the cells (alveolar macrophages of the lungs) and intracellular structures (lysosomes, microsomes) of the liver and macrophages from rats exposed to a widely spread carcinogen nitrosodimethylamine and to one of pyrimidine derivatives as a stimulant of regeneration processes. It has been demonstrated that the pyrimidine derivative may prevent the unfavourable metabolic effects occurring at the cellular level (alveolar macrophages of the lungs) and cell organelles (lysosomes and endoplasmic network) in the early stages of the membrane-damaging action of nitrosodimethylamine.
