[Pregnancy and diffuse intestinal polyposis].

A follow-up of 52 pregnant women with diffuse polyps of the colon showed that gestation deteriorated the course of diffuse polyposis and provoked the appearance of the first symptoms of this disease. Diffuse polyposis had virtually no effect on the course of pregnancy and labor. Gestation eventuated in normal full-term delivery in 22 patients, in preterm delivery in 4, in 3 patients cesarean section was performed, in 1 the fetus was extracted with obstetrical forceps, 1 delivery finished with manual detachment and extraction of the placenta. Late spontaneous abortions occurred in 4 women, induced abortions were carried out in various periods in 68 women. Previous extensive resections of the colon undertaken for diffuse polyposis were not a contraindication to surgical delivery.

Colonic Polyps↗

[Presacral cysts in pregnant women].

Of the 14 women in whom presacral cysts were detected in connection with pregnancy or labor in only 4 this condition was diagnosed before labor, in the rest 10 it was revealed only in labor or after it; this fact points to the necessity of profound examinations of the presacral space in women who consult a physician because of pregnancy. If presacral cysts are detected in pregnancy terms of up to 12 weeks, abortions are advisable, if such cysts are detected later, the patient should be regularly examined by an obstetrician gynecologist and by a proctologist.

Abdominal Neoplasms↗

[Peculiarities of colonic cancer metastasis to the ovaries and the role of prophylactic ovariectomy].

Colonic tumor dissemination to the ovaries was registered in 3%. The likelihood of such dissemination in locally-advanced cancer of the sigmoid colon was higher which in turn supports the hypothesis on colonic tumor dissemination to the ovary via transperitoneal implantation. The patients' condition improved and survival increased following excision of involved ovaries both during and at different stages after radical surgery. Preventive bilateral ovariectomy failed to improve 5-year survival.

Adenocarcinoma↗

[Metastatic ovarian tumors in rectal cancer patients].

Under investigation were 207 female patients with carcinoma of the rectum aged 17 to 68 subjected to bilateral ovariectomy in addition to radical operation. A control group (95 women) subjected only to radical operations for carcinoma of the rectum was also analyzed. It was found that the metastatic spreading of the rectum carcinoma into the ovaries took place in 8.2% of cases. The ovaries were established to be involved in patients with a considerable spread of the primary tumor (T3-T4) growing through all the layers of the intestine wall (P4) disposed superior to the pelvic peritoneum. The metastatic spreading into the ovaries was most frequently observed in women in the postmenopausal period. The data obtained suggest the implantation to be the most probable way of the involvement of the ovaries.
