[Level of estrogen receptors in breast tumors: role of ethnic factors].

Estrogen receptor levels have been assayed in breast cancer patients. A significant increase in receptor-negative tumors was found in Kazakh menopausal women. The proportion of receptor-positive tumors correlated inversely with tumor progression, irrespective of ethnicity. A significant rise in the incidence of receptor-negative tumors was recorded in Kazakh females with breast cancer stage III.

[A mathematical analysis of immunologic indicators in dyshormonal dysplasia and breast cancer].

Correlations between immunologic indexes in patients suffering dyshormonal hyperplasia (33), carcinoma of the breast (48) and healthy females (25) were studied. Rosette-formation test and its modifications were used to evaluate immunologic vigor. No significant differences were found between the quantitative and structural characteristics of immunologic vigor. General relationship between correlations involved in dyshormonal hyperplasia and cancer of the breast were identified. Increased frequency of correlations between paired characteristics was reliably established in patients as compared with healthy subjects; also multiple correlations between the indexes of different lymphoid subpopulations were increased.

[Adrenal cortical function, immunological reactivity and the blood serum cholesterol level of esophageal cancer patients].

Functional status of the adrenal cortex was studied in 80 patients (aged 31-70) suffering esophageal cancer (predominantly stage III). Blood serum showed high levels of cortisol and 11-HCS and a decrease in those of 17-HCS and 17-KS. Groups with hypo-, normo- and hypercholesterolemia were formed. Lowered blood-cholesterol levels were more frequent in cancer patients as compared to healthy subjects. Cases under study revealed decreased immunologic vigor. A peak concentration of cortisol was matched by a decrease in E-RFC level and a sharp drop in that of blood serum cholesterol. Combined chemoradiation treatment partially brought glucocorticoid and 17-KS levels to normal but did not affect cell-mediated immunity. Complex immunocorrection and chemoradiation treatment normalized hormonal function and immunologic indexes.

[Immunocorrective therapy in esophageal cancer].

Additional non-specific therapy including levamisole and other drugs was tested in 20 patients with esophageal cancer. Complex (immuno- and chemoradiation) treatment brought immune response, lipid metabolism and cortisol level to normal, which in most cases, was in correlation with the clinical effect of therapy.

[Evaluation of the immunological reactivity and hormonal profile in patients with breast cancer].

Excretion of 17-HOCS and estrogens as well as the levels of E-RFC and time-delayed DNCB and tuberculin (PPD) contact sensitization reaction were studied in 136 breast cancer patients. A decrease in immunological response in reproductive and menopausal patients was matched by the development of relative hyperestrogenism and elevation of 17-HOCS excretion in the former group and a rise in 17-HOCS excretion only in the latter.

[Cellular immunity indices in benign breast tumors].

Patients with breast cancer, localized fibroadenomatosis and healthy females were examined for the initial state of cell immunity: the reaction of delayed hypersensitivity to DNCB, the absolute and relative amount of rosette forming cells (T-lymphocytes) and the stimulation of lymphocytes under exposure to PHA. A considerable suppression of cell immunity was shown both in breast cancer patients and in patients with benign tumors. The indices of skin allergic test and reaction of spontaneous rosette formation were nearly identical in both groups of the patients under examination. In case of the reaction of lymphocytes blasttransformation in breast cancer patients the stimulation was found to be much lower than in patients with local fibroadenomatosis.
